2007 Trail runs- planning stages

Ok, I know Don, Jay, myself, and I am sure others want to run some specific trails this summer. Most of these trails are a very long day, or possibly a weekend run kind of thing. So, I figured I would put out a thread to get everyone's ideas on the trails, and when the most amount of people interested would be able to run them.

So, here are some of the more popular trails that I think people want to run (many of the harder trails):

Holy Cross
Blanca Peak
Sidewinder
Chinaman Gulch
Iron Chest
Black Bear Pass
Red Cone/Radical Hill
Eagle Rock/Saran Wrap
BML/Red Elephant

I know there are others, but I think many of those went across a few people's lists, so I know for sure the interest was there for these trails. So, now comes the fun part- when is everyone's schedule open to where we might be able to schedule some of these trail runs? I am pretty much wide open up until the first week of October, so not too much on my end. I know that Don has guard on several weekends, so we will do our best not to schedule then. Any other bad weeks/weekends to plan around?

Over Labor day we are going to Crested Butte to camp and scope(use the telescopes we have).
trails planned are:
American peak
Scholfield pass
Devils punchbowl
Pearl pass
Reno Devide
Taylor pass
Tincup pass
Mt Antero
We are hoping to get all of them in in 3 days and not be too tired to stay up all night playing with the telescopes.

MOAB

That is my trail wish list.

Realistically, I want to hit Holy Cross, Grizzly, Iron Chest, Eagle, and Moab this year.

I am out for sure on August 25th/26th, October 6th/7th, October 20th/21st, and probably the weekend before and after Moab.

So if we can say that the last weekend in October is typically when the last trail run occurs, that gives us a total of 12 weekends available for wheeling. If I subtract my current obligations, I only have 7 total weekends to choose from.

I am most interested in a Moab weekend and an Iron Chest/Grizzly Lake trip- possibly throwing in Holy Cross in the same weekend.

Thoughts?

Alright, I do not even want to post my avialable weekends because there are not many. Between now and the end of October I have 5 weekends take up by Guard Drills. So here it goes,

Tentative, but lets talk.

August 24-26 Open (NO JAY)

Sept 2-8 (Could Maybe change up a little) going to Ouray thinking:
Imogene Pass
Ophir Pass
Govener Basin
Black Bear Pass
Corkscrew Gulch
California Gulch
Poughkeepsie Gulch
Engineer Pass
Yankee Boy Basin

Sept 29-30 Open

Oct 5-8 MOAB best for me as is a four day weekend?! (NO JAY)

Oct 19-21 Open (NO JAY)

Oct 27-28 Open

Later,

Don

I hate to say it but my schedule sucks! Sorry Jay but it is looking like your schedule and mine are way off. I want to run Holy Cross, Grizzly, Iron Chest, Blanca and MOAB but man I do not know if it will work out this year. I know we need to get Holy Cross and Blanca done soon or we'll be out of luck for this year. I could change on my week off and schedule Holy Cross on one weekend and maybe Grizzly/Iron Chest/Antero another. But From what I have been reading it would be best to hit Holy Cross on a week day due to traffic jams on the trail. I don't know.

What do you think?

Josh what available weekends do you have?

Anybody else?

Don- we have the opposite schedules That sucks!!

I can't go on the 5th/6th of October.-- I'm in a wedding and Antelope season is during the week.

I'm open for most weekend for a Friday - Saturday deal for Moab or a BV trip.

Hello from Iowa. I think I am heading to Colorado to go jeeping the weekend of August 25th and 26th. Is anybody doing any trails that weekend that I could tag along with? I haven't been out here since 2005. I'd am trying to stay kind of close to the Denver area since I will be driving out on Friday and driving back Monday and the shorter the drive the better. I have run trails like Mosquito, Webster Pass, Mt. Bross and the like. I wouldn't mind something a little tougher.
The only thing I don't like is steep shelf roads but I will do them. I am going to attempt camping which should prove interesting.

Let me know if you're heading out that weekend and if you wouldn't mind a flatlander hanging around.

Don- I'm open just about every weekend until October 5. I don't really have any firm plans for any specific weekend, so anytime is fine by me.

Sweet, I talked to Noel last night and we are set for the week in Ouray. We just need to find a camping spot for the week. We are looking at the following schedule:

02SEP07 travel/setup camp
03SEP07 run three trails
04SEP07 site see in silverton
05SEP07 run three trails
06SEP07 site see in Ouray
07SEP07 run three trails
08SEP07 packup/travel home

The trails look easy enough that I do not think that three a day would be to tough, but then again I have not run any of these before.

Later,

Don
