Aircruiser and Redhatman, don't give up so easily, raising money is alot easier then you think. Print a copy of the flier from their website to show people it's for real and start asking. Ask friends strangers neighbors don't forget your relatives and your parents friends you will be surprised how many people are willing to give. I will guarantee you this, you won't raise a nickel if you don't ask.
I'll commit $20.00 to both of you if you can commit to going. I'm sure your parents would be more then happy to get you out of the house a couple of days (as stated above I'm involved with another charity that week otherwise I'd be going) I bet it will be the most fun you'll have on your summer vacation plus the feeling you get when you work hard to help others will make the wheeling that much better. I know you want to go.

red rubi, i for sure WANT to go, but spending the $150 on gas alone just doesnt seem practical...then what happens if something breaks while I am up there? SCREWED...unless there are parts stores up in gilbert open on sunday. I really do honestly want to go, but $$ is what makes the world go round...

Generally speaking you dont go too far beyond your limits....an event like crawl for the cure or like when I am going (June 6-8) your get with alot of rigs built like yours and you will be ok. For me it takes a little over two tanks of gas to get to Gilbert from the cities.
If your looking for a different kind of event take a look at Apple Valley Farms at rpm4x4.com I have been there the past 3 summers its always a great time.
As far as breaking things go you can almost always find some one to help you out...I had my alt go out in Gilbert and was able to drive to Grand Rapids on the battery and found someone who was able to rebuild it at 10pm that night so I could get home...for the three times I have been to gilbert I have only seen that happen once and it was based on stupidity and I needed a new alt at the time

Where do you guys live if you are spending $150 in gas to get to Gilbert?
At $3.50 a gallon - that is 42 gallons of fuel. If your rig gets 12 mpg that means you could drive 514 miles on $150. From the Twin Cities it is about 350 miles round trip - so it should only cost you around $100 and if your rig gets better mileage than 12 then you are talking even less gas money!
If you are planning a trip to Gilbert this summer anyway - why wouldn't you go when the best and biggest event that happens at the park is going on? Raising the money is very, very easy. I can almost guarantee that you can probably raise way more than $250 by asking your friends and family in a week or 2 - so the only thing you need to pay for is your gas to get up there and back and some food for breakfast and lunch. You could also win awesome prized like a NEW SET OF TIRES, a WINCH or any number of other awesome raffle prizes. You also get an awesome, homemade BBQ dinner Friday night -and a Famous Daves BBQ dinner Saturday night. Think about it - it is well worth the gas money to get up there.

Oh - and I have yet to hear or see anybody get left stranded up in Gilbert. There will be nearly 100 other rigs there that weekend and more know-how and parts than you could ever need. Parts stores are available and stock a lot of the standard XJ, TJ, YJ, ZJ, etc. parts since they know people break.
Worst case scenario is that you hitch a ride on someone's trailer or pay Bill to fix your junk! Lord knows it wouldn't be the first time someone has had to resort to these things!
Oh - and in the past 2 years of me guiding trails at C4C I have yet to have anybody break anything more than a u-joint or driveshaft - and those were both me!

i dont have any skid plates but if youre going to order one off the internet, i took two weeks for my C4X4 tow hooks to come from jeepinoutfitters. great place to buy from but not the fastest. just something to think about if you need it by next week.
as for the crawl, its nearly impossible to know for sure if i can ask for time off this far in advance. the new managment system is really effed up. im 99% sure i wont make it

Just got my Skid Row T-Case skid in the mail, looks sweet. Really well made hunk of steel. Probably be installing it on saturday morning along with some 3/4" coil spacers to try to level out the jeep.
Hopefully be picking up some 30" A/T's or M/T's next week, and then it's off to the Gilbert open house.. can't wait!
I've ordered a few things from JeepinOutfitters.com now, and the longest it's taken has been about 8 days.

took about a week to get them shipped from JO and about 4 days shipping. got here right on time and in good shape so no complaints. i usually work on the jeep when i get time so its not like right after i ordered them i set aside a day the next week to get the hooks installed. so i didnt really mind the wait.
as for the hitch, not yet. i got friday off so im gonna take off the rear bumper and try to get the remaining broken bolts out of the unibody rails and if its nice out, finish up herculining it.
also good to meet some local people. just met fjguercio at work tonight. funny how my manager immediatly knew who i was when he asked who drove the doorless cherokee.

Put the doors back on the Cherokee...
You're driving a vehicle that does not have a frame...the doors are an integral part of the vehicle's safety structure. If you hit something (or someone) at any speed at all, the thing is going to collapse on you.
I know...you're an excellent driver...but it's not you, it's the people around you. You cannot trust that someone else won't do something stupid, and put you in a position that might leave you (or your passengers) crippled or dead.
If the thing were a trail only rig, that would be different...but your posts indicated this is a daily (and only) driver.
If driving doorless is a vital part of your way of life, then sell the Cherokee and buy a Wrangler. E-Bay has plenty of Wranglers (509 right now) for sale, many for less than what your Cherokee's worth. Buy a one-way ticket to Texas or Arizona, score a rust free rig, and drive it home. It's a great adventure, teaches you independence, and you'll be the shiat in the doorless ride you crave.
