JT, we just went down to b'ham last weekend... noticed the "park and ride" near morris is closed down. i thought that place was open year round. heard anything??
Yep, that place is TROUBLE! State right of way is what people were parking/riding on. Folks on sport quads and bike seemed to think it was cool to "race" cars on the interstate and to climb the hills beside it. Troopers didn't think it was nearly as cool. I would stay away from that place, they WILL tow your car and arrest you.
I just picked up an 00 TJ and need some hints/help getting it ready to roll. I'm in Athens/East Limestone....not too far from Decatur and really close to Ardmore

You'll get more advice/hints on here than you could ask for. Is your jeep going to be mainly a daily driver with some offroad use, an offroad only rig that you'll be trailering, or somewhere in-between? Do you like rocks, mud or muddy rocks?
Does your 00 TJ have any current mods or is it stock? My last jeep was an 00 TJ and was very capable with few mods. Don't start till you have a destination or you'll be :brickwall

As for my TJ...I'm looking to have some family weekend getaway fun. I'd like to run 33" tires and get it trail worthy for some club rides or just family outings. It is bone stock right now. I'm not up to date on where all to ride around here, so any help would be appreciated there too.
It is an extra vehicle, but may be driven to work occasionally. I really could use some help on building up my "shopping list" for the TJ...and any help on installs.
BTW, I work in Huntsville, live in East Limestone/Athens.
There is a ride this Saturday at Grayrock (Toys for Tots). Admission is a toy. Grayrock is only open when rented out or when there is an event (see their calendar on their website). Weather permitting I will be there along with some other guys I've ridden with.
Check out this list of places to wheel. http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/where_to_go_wheelin.htm
With your set-up on 33" tires this would be my first blush list:
1) 2" Budget Boost with shocks (OME work great with the BB).
2) Set of Quick Disconnects (JKS my preference)
With those items you should be able to do the local ORV Parks avoiding the more challenging obstacles. Both are quick easy installs.
Wheel with that set-up and you will find what you need next to suit your riding style.
Hey, i was thinking about riding at Gray Rock this weekend... wife just gave the ok(she's a huge LSU fan, so she's watching the game). so, PDK... you want to go? you can stop by and check out my 33's as well.
edit: JT, TJ, 1fast... you guys going to Gray Rock too??
side note... i'm assuming the open ride is on saturday. i just purchased a Rhino, so i'll be wheeling that on sunday with the wife.
I may be interested in going...will be my first. Will a stock TJ work for some of the trails? It would be me, wife, 2 kids too.
got your message...I'll call you back.

sup guys.... I also live in Hsv AL and have a 01 tj on 33's. If you go riding this weekend let me know and maybe we can meet up. My buddy took his rubicon to kansas (military) and i'm wanting to go riding again soon.

you should do fine on some of the lesser trails....just hook up with
some regulars and they will show you around....
look for anyone with the CAOS club and just ask.......we all be good
guys..
CD.
hey al, clear some space in your pm box... i can't get anything to go through.
by the way, we had a great time as well. wish we could have stayed longer, but i had to be fair to the wife(let her watch her team, LSU). we ended up going to Wooly's the next day(sunday) with the Rhino... talk about fun. that little thing will handle a whole lot more than i thought.
anyways...
to everyone else... If you haven't been to GrayRock, you have to go atleast once. it's a great place to wheel and meet some very nice people.
Just bringing this back to life to see who's here from North Alabama...just got my TJ in October but haven't joined the RCRC yet...any places close by to practice and get used to the jeep? I'd like to have some time to play on easy stuff before I tackle some of the harder trails with others watching!
Plenty of us around the HSV area. We hit Wooly's, Wheelin in the country, and Gray Rock. New park soon in Cullman too. I've yet to join RCRC myself, but I visit the forum frequently. Also check out www.itsajeep.org. A lot of people from AL and TN on there. Plenty of rides of all levels too.
