Assuming the Mayans were in serious error, how would y'all feel about a
group get-together with a ride thru Cheaha Park in January? Maybe breakfast and some chit-chat? I propose Saturday, January 12, 8 AM, (after the holidays are long gone) we meet in the brand-new Mc D's at the intersection of AL-9 and I-20 in Heflin, AL.
For those who may not be familiar with the area, Cheaha is the highest point in the state, with incredible views and many public off-road trails.
I am doing this regardless, and it would be nice to have company. Y'all can
P/M me if ya want.

I'll try to make it
I've been a couple of times down the skyway parkway something like that is the name of the trail. It runs the top of the mountain out past Cheaha Park.

Hey, y'all....... Had a great day in the park. Breakfast at McD, then hours of ORV trails in the park. 72 degrees! Here's a pic.........Lots of great scenery.
(I wasn't quick enough to snap a pic of the flock of turkeys that ran across the road.)These trails are as rough and muddy as you can get without having to mess up the paint. And no looking over your shoulder....it's all legal.

Damn, I just found this thread. I live only an hour East of Cheaha (Carrollton, GA). I hike through Cheaha a lot, sometimes drive around on the Kentucky ORV trails near Cheaha.
If you are planning another trip out there, maybe February, please PM me!

I run around up in the talladega nation forest all the time. It seems like they close off all the really fun roads, but there is a lot of space out there, and a few good wheeling roads. I went up there this weekend with a Land Cruiser club and ran from Sylacauga to a campground just south of Cheaha.
Anyway, its fun. Maybe we can get a group up to do skyway or something...

Do you mean the far side of Cheaha State Park past the Ranger Station (coming from I-20), go down the hill, past the water park? The Kentucky Off-Road Vehicle Trails? There are some fun trails down there, but if it rains, I wouldn't recommend going it alone. Definitely have a winch and a buddy.
I think that'd be fun to get a group together sometime. I'm in. Just let me know.

Yeah, around the kentuck orv area. Although the actual ORV trail seems to be designed mainly for ATVs...
I usually go in from the west on the road they call duck nest motorway, cause I'm from oxford which is only about eight miles from Cheaha.

I'm down for a cheaha ride.

If we do a Cheaha ride, there are some good campgrounds along skyway. Tree Farm and turnipseed are both excellent, as well as a number of small group primitive camps.
