I'd be more than willing to go on some rides. Where do you plan on going?
I went to Boggs & Boulders a couple of weeks ago. It's west of Andalusia. It was OK, but since it wasn't finished, it was more like a maze through the woods. Might go to the Conecuh National Forest tomorrow and see what it's like. Here's a link to local Jeep club: http://www.myspace.com/southeastalabamajeeps

Went to the Geneva National Forest today. (Closer and smaller than Conecuh) It was pretty nice since several of the "roads" had some washed out areas from the heavy rains last month. Got stuck pretty bad. Had to get the park ranger to pull me out with a tractor. His truck couldn't get it out if that tells you anything.
IMHO, Boggs & Boulders wasn't much better than this place for I was wanting to do. (just ride some trails, flex my supension a litte, & have a need to put it 4wd some) Best part about this place is it was free.

I talked to the park ranger when I got there. He said the only ones they REALLY required to have permits were the ATV's, motorcycles, etc. It sounded like "technically" full size vehicles were supposed to have them, but they didn't enforce it. There aren't any gates and the only restricted places were well marked with signs. The only places I saw those weren't actual trails anyway. Everything I rode on was either an dirt road or a fire break bulldozed through the woods.
Overall, I liked it. It's 7200 acres so plenty of room to roam. Nothing challenging though if that's what you're looking for. You can see my set-up, and other than getting stuck, I had no problems at all.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go check it out one weekend.

A friend of mine told me about some old dirt roads / "logging" roads southeast of Andalusia. (southwest of Opp) He said he hasn't been on them in years (back in high school) and he doesn't go off-roading but he knows exactly what kind of places I've been looking for. I plan on checking it out soon. I might go out there this weekend, but I won't be exploring too much w/o a GPS. Looks like it would be pretty easy to get lost... yes, there's that many roads.

Found a new spot...
EDIT: Just found out there's a "No Four Wheelers" sign posted w/ a $2500 fine so I've deleted all the info on this place.

Looks like fun. Just need to find out how legal it is and who owns it.

Yeah. I'm not one for trespassing either. I always make sure to look for signs. A friend of mine tried to look up who owned it but Dale County doesn't have it online like Houston Co. does. The girl that told me about it said she thought the city did, but wasn't sure.
