Tampa Bay area wheeling locations?

Anyone in the Tampa Bay or nearby areas know of places where I can get my jeep muddy? I'm pretty embarrassed to admit it's never really been off road at all and I'd really like to fix that.

My jeep is completely stock and doesn't even have any recovery gear so I am not looking for anything but some tame trails or fire roads where I can justify actually putting the thing in 4lo for once.

Any ideas?

I know I should really upgrade it with at least some basic recovery gear first, but unfortunately I'm on a pretty tight budget at the moment and can't really afford all the mods I'd like to do.

Jeep is in my profile '09 2-door X - 6 speed

Thanks

I grew up in Florida as a kid, but I've been living in DC for the past few years and just moved back and some of my old friends wanted to go out and see what my jeep was capable of, I'm pretty curious myself.

Which of those places would you recommend for me since I'm still stock? Also do all of these places have entry fees? or minimum recovery equipment requirements?

where ever you go, Don't wheel alone. For about $60, you should be able to pick up a recovery strap and tow hooks F/R. Hardrock cost $25 to get in, Richloam is free, But also under water this time of year. ONF is free from what I know, as well as Citrus.

If I were you, I'd wait till a ride comes along, then go with a group. 15 of us just went Hardrock last Saturday ( great time ) Some new people In built rigs and some in stock rigs. All did great and when people got stuck ( me ) and others, there were people to pull them out. Keep checking back, there's sure to something popping up soon. Just off the top of my head, we got Jeeptoberfest, ONF camping trip with a possible day at Hardrock ( Look for the Mean Max thread ) and a Richloam or ONF camping trip in January( Me and forum friends ). Hope to see you out on the trails.

There's always the 301 mudhole in Riverview. It's not as fun as the trails but it will give you a chance to workout your 4wd.

MCG's right though, now matter where you go you should have atleast another rig with ya and some recovery gear. You never know...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I may just have to treat myself to some hooks and straps for my birthday.

Hoping to head out to a trail (not sure which yet, still doing a little research) some time real soon, maybe early in October (3rd perhaps).

Hopefully I'll meet you some of you guys some day.
