Anyone in this region. I am in Pensacola so I am mainly talking about Pensacola, Navarre, Fort Walton Beach, Destin, and Panama City. Just wondering if there is enough of us to start a club or something. Lets see how many hits we get!
I don't have all the fancy gadgets on my little YJ that you have in your comfortable TJ, , but I enjoy trails just as much and learning quickly what to do and not to do. I bought mine back March of last year and have put it through the ringer a few times to only have it ask for more.
Anytime I go you are welcome to tag along and improve your skills as we wheel together which is extremely advised rather than wheeling alone. I live in Bayou George and looking to head up to Morris Mountain ORV next weekend if all things pan out this weekend and first of next week. If you want to go then check out their website and then let me know.
Watch here for people going to Mobile Swamp. It's a great place for a novice to learn how to wheel. If you get lucky you can hook up with someone like Roadyy (Rick) who's good at teaching you what your jeep can do.
I'm no teacher by any means, but I won't put you in a situation that will hurt you or your jeep unless that is what you are into. Mobile Swamp is simple and easy learning ground for the novice and has a couple of hills to test the traction capabilities. If Rob is out there then you will have a teacher. I can pick lines pretty good and help spot you, but if you looking for a teacher, don't follow me..lol I will beat my rig hard when the chance arises while putting it where it wouldn't normally be put. This is bad with almost no armor to protect it, but I look at it as creating ops for upgrades.
I have read a little about Morris mountain and I am not sure I am ready for a long drive up there. Especially because I am in a 4-Banger. This mobile swamp is just north of panama city though right? If it is what I am thinking of I have heard a ton about it and I would really like to head up there sometime. I tried accessing panamacityjeepclub.net but it seems like the links on the site are dead. Maybe it is me or what's up? Does the club meet up anytime? What the name of this local shop? My anniversary is coming up and the wife said she wants to get me something new for the jeep
Try this one instead. http://www.panamacityjeepclub.net/forums/index.php
They are just now getting the page back up and going so there are still kinks that need working out. Like said earlier, it isn't a very active board and they do set meetings once a month. Most of the guys who get on there usually meet up at Mobile Swamp the 1st weekend of every month during open season. Mobile Swamp is open between March and November.
Here are a several pics from a couple of trips Jason and I made there last year. http://s1028.photobucket.com/albums/y348/roady2u/Mobile%20Swamp/?start=all
Nice to find some local Jeep peeps...been in the area for ten years, and am finally working on upgrading my stock 1998 TJ SE. Has anyone been on the reservation at Eglin at all...??? I'm looking to get into the scene here soon, working on making my Jeep more backwoods friendly...Live in Milton but not afraid to travel...there looks to be some prime wheelin' going on here locally...
uhfive, you'll be much happier starting out at Mobile Swamp, IMO. It's about 15 miles south of Chipley on Hwy 77. Just type 'Mobile Swamp Rd, Chipley, FL' into any map page (yahoo, mapquest, google, etc) and it'll show you exactly where it is.
Your wife would absalutely be welcome. I take my 10 yr old daughter with me most times and rollin n mud brought his wife when he joined us out there. There are alot of families that go out there just to watch the action in the mud bogg area. There is a lot of drinking taking place out there as with most any outdoor activities, but it isn't a free for all drunken party. I, personally, don't drink and it doesn't bother me being around it aslong as it's not interefering with my enjoyment while wheeling.
We are a family friendly group that get together and enjoy testing our rigs.lol
I don't think it's a club meeting as much as it is the local wheeling spot for around here. They tried to have a club meeting at DQ in Lynn Haven the last saturday of Jan and the place was packed, so they weren't able to figure out when or where eachother was.
I posted a members and their rides thread hoping people will post up so we can better recognize eachother for the future.
Who would be considered the "gear head" out of this panama city club?
Like i said before I am really new to Jeeps and although I take care of mine and I have never beat it up...I bought it used and think it would be nice for someone to kinda look it over with me. tell me what i need to do to fix or keep it in good shape.
Check over all the bushings in the steering components, track bars, sway bar, shocks/bushings, hoses, belt/s, change fluids in tranny and both differentials so you know whats in them. Check condition of brake system. If there is build up of grease and road grime under the hood then a real good degreasing under there for better ability to watch for possible problems trying to creep up on you.
If you are unsure about what each bushing to look at looks like then I could walk you through it on your jeep. I live in Bayou George and work in Millville, so it depends on where you live and our work schedules as to when we both have the free time at the same time.lol
lol , If you pay for the swap then I'll trade you the ones on my jeep now for yours, but I only have four to match your 5. We know how to get in there now don't we??
I am located on Tyndall, so Millville is a lot closer but I am okay with driving out to your place. I don't have a large selection on tools but from my understanding the base has an auto hobby shop out here with a handful of lifts that i am able to rent out and loads of tools to use. I haven't been out there yet, but have heard from people in my squadron that it is pretty nice and pretty cheap!
Weekends are probably best if you're open to walk me through inspecting the jeep, and I may not know much but i am open to learn and if you need a helping hand i would be up to learn something new!
you were quick to snatch those up...i was looking at them this morning trying to figure out how i was going to sell my old TV to get them. also anyone looking for a stock spare? i got one that i have no use for. i would be willing to trade it for a new BFG tire to match mine now.
I called him at 7:40 am and was the 3rd call this morning. The other 2 were trying to low ball him, you believe that?? I told I wanted them for his asking price and was salavating over it. lmao
uhfive, you are welcome to come out to the house with my limited tools aswell and we can go over it to check it over real good. I'll pm you my number and we can set something up for, either, Sunday evening or the following weekend. I'm having major oral surgery Friday morning and possibly going to Tallahassee to pick up some full steel doors for my friends CJ7 I found for 400 bucks.
anyone in PC wanna reccommend some quick discos? I have been looking at the JKS ones but i am having a hard time justifying 150 bucks when i have seen users on here making them for less that 20 bucks!
Well, I done went and done it.. I traded my 05 4dr tacoma prerunner in on an 09 Chevy crew cab silverado 4x4 last night. Will post pics as soon as possible. The dang thing has bells and whistles installed in the bells and whistles that I didn't realize it had til reading the book.
