Need to press U-Joints in Jax

Hey guys, I really need to press some old u-joints outta my front shaft, and my new ones in. Anyone local have a press? The old mallet and socket truck isn't budging these babies. Any help would be appreciated. I'm in Jax Beach, and can bring beer.

U got vice and sockets? That will work.

I got all mine to come out with PB blaster and a big hammer. They were all the originals from 23 yrs ago.

I don't have a vice. But I had a 10" c-clamp that I pretty much destroyed in the attempt. Basically a paper weight now.

Me too!!

In the end a hammer and sockets worked for me. Maybe soak in PB blaster for a few days and hit em up. Another option is rent a ball joint press from autozone, $100 deposit and you get it back. This would work.

I even bought the 6-ton press from harbor freight. What a POS!. It is too small to press stuff like U joints out. Not strong enought to press out stuff it should be able to. DO NOT BUY!

I was trying to avoid this. That press goes for $60. I've already spent $66 on 3 new Precision Greasable joints. So this press would take me over the $120 that the 4X4 shop right down the street wants to charge me for 3 new joints installed.

But, if I've got the press, I guess I'll never have to worry about it again, huh...

Thanks for the help, gents. Oreillys lent me the press. The receipt said 48 hours, but the shop mgr told me to keep it as long as I need. I had it back within the day.

I did however need to buy a 22mm deep socket and an 18"x1/2" drive breaker bar. Made life a whole lot easier.

Learned quite a few things too. Take your time pressing the new joints in, I detonated a needle bearing into about 5 (very small) pieces. Also, start at the t-case when putting the shaft back on. Much easier to wrestle the axle end then the t-case end.

well I'm hoping ocala. I haven't been out since I got my lift, winch, and bumper. If that doesn't work out I'll probably see what I can find closer to town, but ocala is lots of fun and its a pretty nice drive down there actually. Esp if you take the scenic route
