44a is just as strong it just has an aluminum center section that is weaker than the iron d44. The 44a is more prone to warped housings because of the aluminum. Id suggest a btf diff cover with a truss and chromoly shafts and thats a pretty strong axle for 35s

Believe it or not i have seen d35 with big tires and open diff wheel hard in the 90-91 wheelin season in tellico. No upgrades at all but a lift and big tires. Didn't break nothing, and showed itself to be a great set up on extreme terrain. Only vehicle that broke stuff was a cj5 with 304 and welded diffs broke a couple of dshafts. As long as u dont overpower the motor or wanna introduce lockers, the d35 is not a bad axle with a lift and big tires. Tho i have a bud in s.ga that overpowered his 4 cyl with every bolt on u can imagine twisted a few axles on 33's 4.10 gears. Then got chronoly and rung the ring of its teeth once he got 35's. He went 8.8.

When its rained or after a cold frosty nifht, that red clay requires lockers and mt's to get up. But idk how somebody would get stuck goin up or down it, lol. Its like if ya can go up u can come back down or u cant make it up it at all then no chance of gettin stuck lol.

If some of y'all end up going this weekend, post up! I have to go to Atlanta on Saturday to look for a place to live (we're relocating there soon), but, depending upon how that goes, I might be up for another drive to do some wheeling Sunday.
