Sheep Wallow RD, and Nimblewill Gap Rd. Dahlonega GA

So I recently got a 2003 TJ and have been looking to really take it out and see what I was working with. With it still being 100% stock I wanted to have fun but not break anything my first time out. I did some "web wheeling" and found Sheep Wallow RD in the GA mountains. So off went, it was about an hour drive from the Atlanta. We arrived at the "Road", and followed as best as possible on the GPS. We headed for maybe a mile heading in the general NE direction. We were not able to get to the end of the road we hit a rather sloppy section that i think was attributed to the recent rain, and with neither of uss wanting to get stuck and with my Jeep having not much recovery capability we sided against the stick GA clay. But over all the road was alot of fun and i was impressed with my stock TJ's capability.

We then drove another 20min North to Nimblewill Gap Rd a Forrest Service road that runs off of 52. We went into this road not knowing what to expect I had heard that these roads went from impassable to "honda Civic-able". So I went in with low expectations. Nimblewill Gap Rd leads North and is a Looonnggg bumpppy road that eventually switchbacks to the top of a mountain, and was quite...lame. However there was some fun little side roads that led to some nice camp sites, some small river crossings, and even some muddy trails. Over all Nimblewill Gap Rd was rather lame but the other Forrest service roads that led off of it were quite amusing.

Here is a link to the map that we followed, along with some videos we shot along the way. But we had a good time except my CB was malfunctioning, only real bummer.

Hey man...I'm just crawling threads and came across this. I'm in Atlanta too so I'd like to know when/if you wheel any good trails and where they are located. I'm looking for places! Thanks and cool vid's.:cheers2:

wanting to ride the weekend after christmas

A few buddies and I, 3 TJs and 1 Ram, plan on riding the weekend after Christmas. We were planning on going to durhamtown but are open to other options. I have read about nimblewill and sheepwallow but we live in loganville and aren't sure if it will be worth the drive. We have not decided on the day but were thinking about the 29th. Any thoughts?

Ill be up there the 29th. Nimblewill isn't as fun as it used to be, the fs redid it. Sheep wallow is worth it, a lot of fun to play around at.

Let's do this. What time are we meeting and where?

DrGrand 12-21-2012 08:02 AM

I'll be there!

I think that we are leaning towards Durhamtown on Sat the 29th. We will probably meet in Walnut Grove around 8-8:30am and head out from there. Right now it looks like we are going to have 3 TJs and a Ram. If anyone else wants to ride with us let me know.

TJ_Virgin 12-21-2012 08:12 AM

I like Durhamtown also...

Ill be up there tomorrow. Not sure where I'll be when. What time are you going to be at sheep wallow? Also I've been informed there's a dryer left on the main trail, so if we can fit it in the wj ill haul that away.

The time now is 01:08 AM.
