The best thing to do is to join a club to get some riding experience and learn.
There are clubs that have meetings and dues and there are clubs that don't.
Do some research and decide what is best for you. Location of the meetings could be a big factor.
I started out with just a 2" BB lift and did some riding, but the more challenging trails may call for a little more lift.
There are a lot of forest service roads that you can do and some of the parks have some easy trails.
Yes, sad to say most of the riding places are private now.
Beasley is one of the cheaper rides and a good place to do as your first ride as long as it is DRY. The Georgia clay gets slicker than....well, you know.
