Gulches. It is in Laurens and is one of the top rated parks in the US. Check them out here: http://www.gulchesorvpark.com The next time I will be there is on the 19th of Feb for a huge ride that will be tons of fun!! Feel free to ask any questions about the park.
Not a problem! Since you are new it is absolutely the best place to check out. Skip has rangers that will show you the park and help you get comfortable with the park and your vehicle. All of the trails have difficulty ratings and are marked well both on the map and before the trail starts. If I am there I would be more than happy to show ya around! I will send ya a message with my number.
hell yea man . I appreciate it . Id love to go down there. trying to get my 2.5 rustys kit on this week. this forum is seriously way better than other ones ive been on
i am a cheep guy lol and i dont have a lot of money to spend so is there anywhere in midlands-ish area that is free? aka might be illegal to be there lol
There are 2 places to go wheeling in spartanburg.Great trails and mud pits and hill climbs. A little bit of everything. I wouldnt do nething in a stock WJ though.
I'm looking for someone to do some easy to intermediate trails with. My Cherokee is only mildly modified, and I've only been offroad about four times. It's hard to find someone with a comparable rig and skill level. I rode down to Gulches for the first time last Sunday, and I met some nice folks from Club 4x4 Upstate SC. Do you have recovery points on the front and back? Also, what tires are you using?
The place in Easley was Rice's Creek. It is no longer open. Gulches is in Laurens, other than that Uwharrie and Coal Creek are your other options that are legal, both are about 3 hours from Greenville.
you replied to something the other day and I didnt put two and two together then I was like that is russell brown man haha. pretty good man. how about you?
thats good man . I talked to tom the other day for the first time in a year or so and he was telling me a little about him and he said you were stationed somewhere nice haha
Hawaii was nice for like a month but now I'm over it. There isn't much wheeling out, well at least not my island. I was back home in a few weeks ago and it seems all the wheeling spots are being shut down. They craver mill in Spartanburg, got ran out Fruit Mountain when I was home, and Gulches is having finical problems. If go to fruit mountain, make sure you go on a dry day and stay out of the mud holes there deep. It seems like every time I go up there I get body damage.
haha damn man that sucks. Well im new to wheelin anyway. trying to put my 2.5 lift on my wj right now but rusty sent me the wrong bushings for the rear so its on hold. im going to modify it to make it work for the time being haha. but yea on feb 19 there is like a save the gulches day. you need to get back down here and show me how its done man
I have no recovery points. Ive been meaning to get some tow hooks. I have never really done too much offroading. Still new to this jeep thing haha and I have just regular 245 70 16. No a/t or m/t
My second trip offroad was with a Jeep Jamboree, and tow hooks are required for those. I use a frame-mounted class III receiver for my recovery point on the rear. I wouldn't know where to safely attach the strap without tow hooks if the need arose.
I was running 235/75R15 tires when I installed my two-inch lift. They were cheap tires, relatively speaking, and two had tread separation; but it was still an expensive decision to upgrade to five (gotta have a full-size spare for the trail) new BFG AT KO 31-inch tires. I went with all-terrain tires because I was still using the vehicle as my daily driver at that time, wanted to keep the noise and vibes down, and as now, rarely went offroad. Unfortunately, I can't afford to switch to mud tires now.
Besides your lift, do you have any other planned modifications for your Jeep?
I got the lift installed and Im buying my rear extended sway bar links this week. also im trying to get some tow hooks out of the junk yard but as of right now the funds are running low lol
I understand completely. Getting a jeep trail-ready can be an expensive and slippery slope. And there are a lot of opinions about what's necessary to go off road.
BTW, I just read in a Georgia thread that there's a place called Durhamtown Plantation about 2 1/2 hours south of Greenville, a little ways past Athens. That's a half hour closer than Uwharrie NF in NC, and they say Durhamtown has 20 miles of OHV trails, I believe.
Still, Gulches ORV Park is only about an hour from Greenville, and we need to support them if we want to keep this local park from shutting down.
