alright..... the carnage on my jeep from sunday....
a motor mount bracket failed..... leading to the passenger side of my motor running for the ground..... slammed my oil filter into the frame (guess i need an oil change.....), yanked my positive battery cable from the battery to the starter into the battery tray, peeling back the insulation, grounding out, and frying my optima battery..... THEN i get it on the rollback, chain the back, not paying attention, go OVER the hard line on the rear axle (not under) and flatten it out.....

SO
New motor mount brackets (thanks brown dog)$160
new battery $140
new positive battery cable $100
new oil filter (and oil.....)$25
new rear hard brake line $15

all for a whole 30 minutes of fun..... PRICELESS
IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!!

hopefully everything will be here this weekend..... last 2 days off work before i head to URE..... if not, gonna be long days next week between work and wrenching.

ERIK..... are you still going next weekend??? if so, running the 2.5 or 4.0?????

anybody else wanna go?????

I'm moving to Wilmington from Florida in a few months and I've got some questions about getting my Jeeps inspected.

I have a 95 YJ that I use for grocery-go-getting (4 banger). I know I'll need to add a catalytic converter to it to pass the tailpipe test, but I'm curious about the brakes. I threw disc brakes on the back and unplugged the dashboard light (instead of installing an adjustable proportioning valve. Will I need to get the valve and plug the sensor back in to pass the safety test?

I also have a 75 CJ-5 that I know will need a complete exhaust rework (304, headers dump into leg burners right behind the doors). The steering is as loose as any CJ's and it only has lap belts. Are those going to be problems, as well?

BTW, it's nice to see there is fun in that neck of the woods. I'm originally from Henderson, NC, near Raleigh, and you couldn't go offroading without tearing up somebody's tobacco field.

actually i dont think you have to worry about anything you posted, they changed the inspection laws, 95 and earlier need only safety inspection ie; headlights, turn signals, horn, wipers etc, just little stuff like that
and on 96+ vehicles they just plug in to the on board computer, no more sniffer tests or anything like that,
as long as you have all working exterior lights, you're pretty much good to go!and let us know when your here, its always fun having more people to go wheeling with

That's awesome, thanks!

Of course, on Mongo (the CJ), windshield wipers are less of a worry than the gaping rust holes on the bottom of the windshield frame, rain just pours in behind the dash LOL

PS- I'm looking for 4 8 lug wheels with tires for cheap/free....

My plan is to bolt them on, put my boggers on a small trailer, and tow them to uwharrie... swap wheels/tires there... and wheel the piss out of it....

if you have any wheels/tires or know someonw who does, let me know. i'd love a set of H2 wheels with tires that had a few miles left in them, or just some 17" 8 lug wheels... i could find tires.....
