as of right now, tellico is no more, URE is your closest option to outer banks. (if you consider 5 hours close)

I think that would be an 8 to 10 hour drive. Correct?

URE is going to be extremely crowded for memorial day, I would not advise it for a daytrip from the OBX. I will be in Frisco for the weekend and when I get to Frisco I am not going far from it due to the traffic you will see.

We are planning to take a couple of days before heading back to the obx. i think our cutoff for travel will be about 7 hours being that it will be 12 hours to the obx. I spoke with someone from the south jeepers forum and he confirmed that Tellico is closed and that they have filled there final petition to have it reopen and if they lose that will be it for Tellico

I believe they have started the bidding for "trail destruction" at Tellico.

Head a little further south for the weekend, stay at Carolina Beach, then you will be close to wheeling at Carolina Backwoods in Ash NC. Otherwise you'll be about 5 hrs away. I believe you can take the Cedar Island and Hatteras Island ferry for part of the trip if you want for a nice ride. Where in NJ you from? I'm originally from bergen cnty.
