There are several Forest Service roads within 30 minutes/1 hr of Hendersonville. Brevard has several and there's Hurricane Creek. The closest off-road parks are probably the Gulches in Laurens SC and The Flats in Marion.

Hurricane creek is the main DS road I was thinking of. There are several out in Brevard around the fish hatchery. I had to go down and rescue some friends that got stuck in there after a big snow a few winters ago. I've been out somewhere near Hendo called edge if the world or worlds edge or something...its been a few years so not sure if you can still drive out there.

Unfortunately world's edge is blocked off. Too many people were dumping their trash out there. I wish it was still open as it was a nice short ride only 4 miles from where I live.
