Uwharrie is a good place to learn. I've been twice so far.

I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. I think...
This may sound lame, but I don't Facebook (I used my wife's account to see the group profile). Does your group have any rides coming up? Just got my JKU back with 2.5" lift, 35s and new gear ratio. Itching to take it out, but not looking to trash it in the process. My buddy has a Yota with small lift who is looking to ride as well. Both of us are in Charlotte. Thanks.
Compound Offroad Park in Chester, SC (~45 min from Charlotte) was open today and tomorrow (Jan 4 and 5, 2014). It is not open every weekend, but was a popular place. The trails were easy to moderate. The mud section started off OK, then got really sloppy. I run 315/70/R17 Duratracs and got around OK, but stayed away from the deep mud. Pics uploaded. GreenMonster - I figured out how to upload to a post, but still not the PM.
