If the good stuff is closed, what is left? How long of a ride will it be with the trails that are left open? I only ask because it's a 2 hr drive for me to get there.
Yeah, I was kinda wondering that myself. I have been tossing around about going south this weekend...either Jocassee or Gulches. Just because they are close!

I know it's supposed to be closed then according to information I've seen around here but if you want me to check the day before or so, I can do that for you as I live less than 10 minutes away.

EDIT: Any idea of a head count right now?
This is still as fun as hurricane creek, probably the same amount of time to ride the trail. Has 2 water crossings & a couple of washed out ruts that are fun. I like this trail because its far less used than hurricane creek, seems the last couple rides at hurricane creek we've run into the law.

Edit--you will not be dissapointed with this ride.

So far the headcount is maybe 3 jeeps.

Any videos or pics of this trail anywhere? All I could find was some motorcycles crossing a creek.

Just make sure to stay ON the trail....ask me how I learned that lesson...

I haven't been to rough butt in a few years, but the last time I was there, nothing was closed off. Some of the other trails in the area I noticed had areas shut down. I have friends who ride up to the bald all the time down there, not sure which route they take though.
