Bill & Ted's excellent adventure #6, WNC/East TN 2-16-13

Saturday 2-16-2013
This trip will be to Rough Butt Trail near Sylva, NC. We'll meet at Canton Bojangles & leave around 8:30. It takes maybe an hour to get to the trail from there. I'd say its doable stock but may need some spotting in places, I haven't been there in 2years so the trail could have changed by now. It takes a few hours to ride the whole thing.

I havent been out there in two years, but I know a lot of that area has been gated and tank trapped. Just a warning before you drive all the way out there.

Yeah there's a couple of the trails to the cabins still open. It is pretty sad that they did that to the trails they were nice to ride on.

There's still about half the trail system open, but the best parts of it are off limits now. Would be very nice if those tank traps were passable by now. Just have to see when we get there. Thats our F--ing tax dollars hard at work.

For anyone west of Sylva area you could meet us maybe at the foodlion store in Sylva, and ride out from there.

You should see it now with the new rubbers. I'll get some pics this weekend.

Please don't drive over the tank traps even if you can.

We will only be driving on open sections of forest service roads. I'l make sure we stay on the main trail system.

You'll have to check out the waterfall up the creek from the 2nd water crossing. Its large enough to swim in.

If the good stuff is closed, what is left? How long of a ride will it be with the trails that are left open? I only ask because it's a 2 hr drive for me to get there. Possibly bringing along the wife and kid(she loved it last time).

EDIT: Any idea of a head count right now?
