This trip will be to rich mtn trail near Hot Springs. We'll meet at Weaverville bojangles & leave around 8:30, it takes several hours to complete just like hurricane creek did. This trail is moderate but will have a few technical areas...We've got the stock jk stuck here in 2 different spots. Stock jeeps will make it through with a little coaching. As always we will stop & have our hot dog lunch.
Edit=our pics of this ride are on p13 thru p15 of this thread.
Locked in for this one too. Was trying to get shackles and spacers before the trip, but thats not gonna happen. After our last trip to Hurricane creek I decided I need more flex!
Are there places here to really articulate at all?

Their will be some places to flex it & play around, but overall the road is not too bad. Kinda like hurricane creek, few minutes of nice trail & then we can stop & play......I remember one badass part at this place where i was three wheelin pretty good, felt like the one tire was 2-3 feet off the ground.

You know I thought I would use it in our last trip and didn't. I'll be damned if some guy didnt flag me down for a tow off the 4 lane as soon as I made it back in the city limits. Just pulled him, no winch.

I went to some local forest roads today and checked them out. Went through a deeper than I though mud puddle and got a gash in my sidewall(less than 3k miles on tire). GREAT way to get into wheeling. Also busted my front FSU license plate I just bought a week ago. Did love seeing(and people checking out) the jeep covered in mud though.
You cannot get a sidewall patched on the inside can you ?
Most places won't repair a sidewall. You might could find a smaller independent one that would do it if possible so you could have a spare. Are you in Asheville?

Thats one thing that i liked about going with discount tire....basically the tire is covered for its life (40k, 50k, etc) that if anything happens to it minus someone stabbing it, they replace it for free! If I air down and rip it open on a rock...i get a free one!
And yes, I get excited when i think of wheelin, could be the noob in me, but I had a blast last time! :2thumbsup::thumbsup::2thumbsup::thumbsup:
FYI: Almost nobody will repair a sidewall. It's just too dangerous.
Look, say what you want but i get more nervous than anything. I get excited, oh hell yea. But I guess it's just more adrenaline than anything. Up until the point that I am actually wheeling, all thats going through my mind is "Did I make sure that was tight", "Did I make sure that was full", and "Is _____ going to break!?" Then it all goes away once we get into the ride.

I busted a bead a couple of trips ago and discount dismounted it, cleaned the mud out and rebalanced it for no charge. I have never purchased anything from them.
Mine has been in the garage since last trip, never even washed it. Next on my "jeep to do list" is to fill up the gas tank. I hope to have it ready before saturdays big run.
Was thinking about lifting the rear a couple more inches, that way i'll always be pointing downhill, should be better for fuel mileage?

Okay is there anyone going that is close to Marshall/ Hotsprings? If so I think it would be good to check the "gate" of forestry service road 422A. One time we tried a night run and the hate was locked and rest is history. I'll go check it on Thursday if no one is closer and somebody covers my hotdogs.
FS website says its open from 3/15 thru 1/18.
Check out this bit of info i read on their website:
Motor vehicle use, especially off-highway vehicle use,
involves inherent risks that may cause property damage,
serious injury, and possibly death to participants. Drive
cautiously and anticipate rough surfaces and features,
such as snow, mud, vegetation, and water crossings
common to remote driving conditions. By your participation,
you voluntarily assume full responsibility for these
damages, risks, and dangers. Take care at all times to
protect yourself and those under your responsibility.
Much of the Unaka Ranger District is remote. Medical
assistance may not be readily available. Cellular telephones
do not work in many areas of the Unaka Ranger District.
Take adequate food, water, first aid supplies, and other
equipment appropriate for the conditions and expected
weather. Many designated roads and trails may be passable
only by high-clearance vehicles or four-wheel drive vehicles.
Maintenance of designated roads and trails will depend on
available resources, and many may receive little maintenance.
