Smokey Mountain trails?

Quick question to ask for people who have been there before..

Are there any trails in the Smokey Mountains that I can take my Jeep off road?

I was reading there are two "trails to drive" that lead out of the Park that are one way.. so it really does not say what they are... any clues?

I'm heading that way later this year also and would be interested in any mild places also. We will be in my wife's JK which is a street jeep / mild wheeler at the moment. Once it's paid off it will replace my TJ.

One road that I'm going to try is a road in Cade's Cove that says' "4 wheel drive only". I'm not sure what I'll find but I want to try it. This is the first trip there for us in a Jeep.

Hey guys, I'm actually here visiting right now till Saturday. I took the Cades Cove trail you mentioned. It's just an unimproved one way road. It can probably be passed in 2wd with no problem. It's not exactly trail worthy. It does lead you out of the park, so you cannot get back in that way. I don't know of another trail, but I wish did before I have to leave.

I will be there this whole weekend, I knew of the one but there is another one.. You said it was a "unimproved" road so does that mean dirt, gravel or paved? Ask the Park Ranger if there are any..

Did you see much Animal life around this time of year?

Yeah the road is all gravel. My gf and I saw a coyote when we entered Cades cove, but we only saw birds and squirrels on that road.

I will be there Saturday Morning with my Liberty...hope to see and do many things while there.

We may actually go check out hurricane creek today or tomorrow. From what I hear is that it is not too far from Asheville.

Let me know how that looks...

Well my gf and I just got back from hurricane creek. It was a fun ride with a few water crossings. I certainly suggest going there. It was way more fun than the Cades cove road.

How far away from Cades cove is this place?

XJ2JK 04-01-2011 10:45 PM

Not very far from the national park. It is right between mile marker 7 and 8 on I-40 west bound. The road is right next to a guard rail on the right side of the highway. It comes up fast though so keep an eye out.

Thanks for the tip, what kind of trail is this place?

If you are looking for actual trails there is windrock. You get the beauty of east tn mnts. Smokies don't have any actual 4x4 trails that are open to the public.

Rich Mountain Road was not bad..kind of fun and lots of pictures.

We are in SC and travel to Asheville alot up 25. Not sure if anyone from JF goes that way or not but heading up the mountain, there is three trails/roads that turn off to the left.

Does anyone know about these or have been down them? Well, two go up the mountain and one goes down. We have thought about it but don't know what would be said if we got caught...
