Chattanooga TN

I need alot of information on this town and surrounding areas. I would say about a 50 mile radius. This includes East Ridge, Signal Mountain, East Brainerd, Fort Oglethorpe (GA), Middle Valley, Cleaveland,Calhun, Dunlap, and Tracy City. Looking for:

Price of milk
Price of Gas
Average power bill
Average heating bill
Cell phone coverage
Gun laws
Offroading
Schools
Taxes
Work outlook
Major/unique stores
Land

I am looking too, but if I can get some easy answers. Feel free to tell me anything you want.

So, no one live in this area? Does anyone have any opinions on the area? How about Ashville, NC? I am open to go there as well.

this is the chamber of commerce in Chattanooga, my suggestion would be to call the local chamber of commerce where ever you want to go and speak to someone in person. From my experiences I moved from southern Louisiana to Los Angeles and had no problems, usually your pay rate balances out pretty well with the cost of living.

I am in Cleveland. I love it. Small town feel with everything you need. Close to the real mountains. (Ocoee, Nantahala, Big Frog, Cherokee National Forest) See below in red. Anything in any of the towns you listed is a reasonably close drive, but Cleveland seems the least crowded to me.

I'm about 20 minutes outside Chattanooga and like it. In the city limits you pay county and city taxes and in some of the smaller towns you have their tax as well but overall they are quite low. Bit higher across the border in GA. As far as offroading Aetna is fun (look it up on youtube) as well as about 6 others less than an hour from where I live. VW is still hiring and looking to expand and Amazon.com is about to start building a place next to it. There are plenty of malls and like said above, Walmarts (15 within an hour of Chattanooga 7 of those in metro Chattanooga). Def recommend the Chamber of Commerce, they just published a magazine with average home cost, income etc. Wife is the pres of our local chapter so we get them in the mail but you can have one mailed to you for free. Lot of good info in it. Oh and I have gas heat, cook with it and heat my water with it and it's around $80 a month in the winter. Electric isn't too bad since we have TVA here, hydro and nuclear as well as coal fire.

Looks like the positive answers I got here, and on other boards, have oushed the wife into moving. I was always down, but she needed convincing. Good bill prices, low-ish cost of living, plenty of spots to camp, wheel, and go hiking. Plenty of nice cities to go to, and spend time seeing the sites.

Little late here, but I've been out of the loop for a while around here.

We moved to the Chattanooga area (Hixson to be exact) in Sept 2010. Left FL and the goof balls behind, and have never been happier. Beautiful country, genuinely nice people, relatively low cost of living. Chattanooga and the surrounding areas have a great business-friendly mindset, and the economy is booming.

The people in TN really make it nice.

Where are you in Hixson? I'm just pass Lakesite near the nuclear plant, less than 1/8 mile off Hixson Pike, and always looking for new people to wheel with.

cleveland is the way to go imo, cheaper, less crowded, safer, still close to everything.
