I'm from Lynchburg so we're pretty close. Don't know of any good trails though... maybe we can find someone who does know the trails and ride together as a group

Go to Potts Mountain/Barbours creek. It is public land, well maintained not too far from you. Has some obstacles that will be a challenge for the ZJ.

challenge for a stock zj?

I ran it and had no issues but did drag in some spots (2dr jk rubi on 35's). Stock TJs had to go around some of the obstacles.

my girlfriend's sister goes to med school down in this area at virginia tech. so i'm looking for a reputable shop or helpful member in case there is any work needed to be done, because i'm not going to drive 8 hours to diagnose/fix her 2000 jeep cherokee. i'm a VW TDI guy that's why i'm a newbie on here, i just never got into the jeep thing, but i know that there are a lot of bad shops. i ended up doing a motor swap on that vehicle because i had a bad diagnosis (told me the camshaft broke; when it was the cam synchronizer) at a shop in albany, NY when my girlfriend owned it.
thanks, any suggestion would be helpful i'm now subscribed to this thread

I used to be in Roanoke but I'm up in Natural Bridge now... but still not far away. There's a place about 30 mins from me called Shoe Creek that's fun but stays pretty mild. There are a few harder obstacles but all of them can be avoided. I took my stock ZJ through a few times with no trouble.
I'd say we should try to organize a trip there but I still gotta get 4wd working in the WJ. Let me know if you guys in the area would be interested though.
Also it's probably about a 2 or 2 1/2 hour drive from Roanoke but I hear Crozet has some pretty good trails. I haven't been there myself but from pictures and what friends have told me it looks pretty sweet

We should be taking a trip to shoe creek and big levels at the end of September if y'all want to tag along. Both are stocker friendly and we don't do Amy hard stuff since we have to drive them back home

Sounds fun. I'm down as long as I got 4wd by then :D

I know this thread is from August 2012 but you have bobblets gap in Montvale. Just an old fire trail that runs from Montvale to Buchanan. Pretty easy trail. Just something fun to hit if you're bored.

I'm new on here and also looking to meet up with some jeepers from Roanoke area. Just bought a 2012 jk 2door sport and would like to see what it can do stock. I took my last wrangler across Potts mtn. Definitely not stock friendly.
