if I am reading the info on that link correct, all of the beaches only allow you to drive on them from Oct. to April....?

is oregon Inlet the only other place you can drive on the beach? Every time I look this up I find conflicting information

Looks to me like there are tons of rules!

This helps though

i had just heard that in the past few years they have really cracked down on driving on the beach, and if I make a trip down there I want to be sure I can get a permit and get on the beach is all.

Yes you can north of corolla and Oregon inlet south. Oregon inlet and south require a permit, but north of corolla does not.

Yes in general, but they will have local closures due to the effing piping plovers. Just keep you're eyes open and those areas will be posted.

I got a response in about 24hrs. They are a very active club, but I have yet to attend an event. I think my first is going to be their annual picnic on the 27th.

Carova, at the end of 12 North, is still free. Everywhere else costs the big bucks. I will not visit the other end of OBX again until the fees are removed.

The groups working together to repeal the fees and increase the fractional access that remains:

VA 4WD Association - http://www.va4wda.org
NC Beach Buggy Association - http://ncbbaonline.com
Outer Banks Preservation Association - http://obpa-nc.org

My build thread has pics again. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f177/kevin108s-2000-xj-build-867428/

I went down to obx yesterday, we took 12 north into carova, that's where the hwy ends and turns into the beach entrance. I want to go back soon but wanted to see if anyone wants to go along and convoy down there one of these weekends.

Me and the wife went up to assateague island yesterday but didn't make it to the beach from the lack of items needed. But we're wanting to go to obx. Maybe in 2 weeks.
