Hey folks! Thought I would pass along this opportunity to wheel on the private property of Oak Ridge Estates, near Lovingston, VA. This is the site where numerous Camp Jeeps and Jeep Jamborees have been held also. This will be our 3rd time attending the Annual, and my 5th time wheelin' at Oak Ridge. Awesome trails, people, and food. Totally doable in a stock Jeep as there are bypasses. It's in Shipman, just South of Lovingston off 29N. It's $100.00 for vehicle and driver and a can of chili. You can purchase extra meal tickets for $5 each. Trust me, if you can make it you won't regret it. I would suggest that you get the Registration in as soon as you can, as even though registration closes Sept 1, it always ends before that, as they only take 250 vehicles. Tent camping is available as part of the charge, at the Main Site, but as it stands right now, no motor homes, campers or pop ups. There will be alternative sites available.

The Virginia 4 Wheel Drive Association is a group that's comprised of many groups in Virginia, with the Annual hosted by one of the those groups, Tidewater Four Wheelers. Everyone that we've met the 3 times that we have attended has been cool. I think you'll have a great time.
As of today 110 have registered, with 140 spots left.
No change regarding the camping yet. It's being worked on, but may not be able to be changed. You could try to contact Lake Nelson Campground, it's the closest campground that allows campers. I'm told that the lady that runs it is gracious, but hard to get hold of, call late at night.
Let me know when you send in your registration and I'll PM you the confirmation link, that way you'll know that you made it.
Im in the process of joining the Tidewater Fourwheelers, Im definitely planning to attend this years Annual Trail ride. Richard, realistically, how long do you think I have before the 250 is met, Im still trying to work it out so Im off that weekend.
It's filling fast. I wouldn't wait. You might email Jesse Shnell (think I spelled it correctly) and see if you can register with the ability to get a refund if you can't get time off. There will end up being a list of "alternates" who can fill vacancies.
The Annual is an awesome event.. waaaaay friendly.
You should have fun no matter what line you get in. The important thing is to get in the same line both days. If you jump around, you run the risk of doing the same trails 2 days in a row.
I'm currently building a little green CJ5 that will make it's debut at the Annual Run. I hope it works well so I'm not "that guy" out on the trail!!
The trails are designed so that a "stocker" can make it thru. Might have to take a couple bypasses but no big deal. Any Jeep will work.. and you'll have a great time.. guarantee it.
Sweet man, Ive got my check and registration all ready to go, i do want to make it so I can get one foot in the door as far as joining the tidewater fourwheelers goes. I think its something like 3 overnight trips and you can become a member, not sure though... I should have fun though, my jeep is definitely not stock...but im definitely not locked with gears and 35s either! lol. My brother lives in charlottesville, so im hoping I can crash with him and go wheeling fri and sat.
Tidewater 4Wheelers is a great club. They host the Annual and several other big events here in VA. Good bunch of folks to wheel with. Matter of fact, they just helped out Starr Motors in Suffolk with their big truck show and offroad obstacle course on Saturday. About a half dozen of us from Middle Penn Jeep Assoc went down and ran the obstacle course. Couple of the muddy hill climbs were tough.. full throttle required to get up.
If you're ever up in Newport News on a Saturday, swing by the Dunkin' Donuts on Denbigh/Jefferson Ave at 10am.. our club does our weekly "Coffee Run".. basically we just meet up, drink some coffee, shoot the breeze..etc.
Got my registration in the mail on the 11th looking forward to it. At only $60 to register thats cheaper than the gas I will use to get there:rofl: oh wait not funny about the gas
Sounds cool man...I was at the Starr Motors event, it was an awesome set up they had. They did a great job getting the trail together....some of the guys who work at the dealership had mentioned to me prior to the event that the trails would be "impassible", they werent lying were they!? lol. But, yea I think the off road day turned out pretty good. If im ever in Newport News Ill definitely swing by...
well yea......only one I saw that walked up the hill and logs was that bad**** chevy that guy had. Thats the only one I didnt see that had to use the powerwagon's winch.
You must have showed up after I ran it. I did it about an hour before that Chevy.
He didn't do the steep climb at the end of the trail.. after coming thru another mud pit. That one had a nice off-camber climb with a steep dropoff to your left. I got a little "out of shape" on that climb and had to stay in the throttle hard to keep from sliding down the embankment.
O yea I saw you man! One of the best built rigs there that day! And Richard D, I mailed out my registration this Monday, so Im hoping all will be well....
Scotch... going to be there again too huh? we all need to meet and wagon train down from the 'ville. i'm all comfirmed and going to pick up my its only oakridge t-shirts from ben when were down there...
hope to see yall there!:cheers2:
Tdogg, you should be fine then. Jesse will probably update the confirmation post over the weekend if he's in town.
Hey Red, hope to catch up with you this time. We ordered shirts from Ben too. Saw you the second day of the Wheel - In when I was working the gate Saturday mornin', but didn't have time to talk.
Looking forward to seeing those of you I know and meeting those of you I don't.
update, im on the list! Cant wait to get down there.....gotta focus on finding some protection for my tc crossmember before the 19th. Took chunks out of my tc last time I was on the rocks..
If you haven't sent your registration in, there is only 10 registration days left until the registration box closes for the year. Plus there are only 110 spots left. Get them in quick and don't be left out.
For those that have sent them in….. a confirmation e-mail will be out on the 2nd of September with all the information you need.
To answer that burning question….primitive camping only, at this time. I will let you know more if and when I hear it.
The Raffle: As of right now there are three sets of tires (one of which is rumored to be Pitbulls), four winches, plus many other great prizes. This doesn't include the donated stuff from other member groups.
As Srhmn8r said, it hasn't been updated since 8/20. Send it anyway, as sometimes people have to cancel, and then the ones "on standby" get in first come first served. Send it as soon as you can too.
There will still be tent camping at the main site. This gives the folks that have pop ups, campers, etc., an alternate option to Lake Nelson Campground, and it's right around the corner from Oak Ridge. Greggs site is basically a large field that will be bushhogged with portajohns, there are NO hookups. More information regarding camping is supposed to be sent out with the confirmations.
Be well,
Richard

From Gregg Jackson:
Because of the changes at Oak Ridge, I have talked to the owner of a nearby place and I will be opening a campsite off site for the Annual. The access is limited by the railroad tracks. It is a pretty tall hump to get over the tracks. So long low clearance vehicles might have a problem.
I can get my unsprung 19' trailer loaded over no problems. But a long camper might have issues.
If you would like to reserve a camp site you must do so before the event.
Send me your;
Name
Club affiliation
How many tents
How many vehicles.
It's $10 per night per tent.
This covers porta johns and getting the area ready.
I will have the bathroom folks clean the potties Fri evening or Sat am this time.
If you have any questions please shoot me an e-mail.
My registration and money is in the mail as of this morning. I've got a Rigidco front bumper on the way here too, can't wait to test it out on this run.
175 Registered, 75 spots left. You have to have your registration postmarked by September 1st, only 5 days left, and that's if it doesn't get to 250 first.
For those that have sent theirs in, check out the confirmation link that I PMed you to see if you made it yet.
The final answer regarding camping on site, other than tent, is still being worked on, and will be sent out with the confirmation email September 2nd.
Be well,
Richard
