What happened on Drummond Island? Tight n Twisties trail.
What happened with the logging? Seeing rumblings on forums about this. Never been up there (Al won't allow me up there :p), so I don't know what this trail is. Who has the dirt? Paul?

I hate this state.
You may go to Drummond at will. I'm having a hard time caring anymore.

We are still waiting for the DNR foresters to complete their review of the situation, but the general consensus is that they were supposed to clear cut but leave a buffer zone along the trail. A group up there this weekend found the area so obliterated that even experienced DI wheelers with GPS couldn't find their way. GLFWDA, Drummond Island Offroad Club, and others are working to get an answer, but nothing will bring that trail back.
It was my favorite on the island.

What's the wisdom of allowing any logging on DI? Keep us updated on the happenings.

the DNR said the trail was gone because of normal winter blowdown and nothing else.
The Drummond Island Offroad Club is responsible for those trails, they will be heading out in the next couple of days to check it out and hopefully get the straight story. Many of them live on then island and know it better than anyone else, so have to wait a few more days.

This is depressing. I have never even gotten to go there, was hoping to tag along on a trip this year.

Im going in three weeks. My usual night run through the Tight and Twisties, will be replaced by a trip to the bowling alley and some very heavy drinking.

Is there any new information on what happened? I looked for updates a few weeks ago and found nothing.

It was my goal to make it up there this summer. I doubt that's happening though.

I have not heard about this until right now.
Isn't that public land? Wouldn't someone have to 'authorize' logging like that? Is there any recourse?

The logging was authorized then the trees that remained were blown down which is very common. The trail was covered in snow and all the trees that had markers were gone. It's a mess, but they are trying to get it cleaned up. I was in the group that found the mess and there was no trail to be found. We searched for 30+ minutes trying to find anything by foot and with a RZR and still nothing.
I'm sure there are updates on the Drummond Island website regarding the trail.
