Looks like everyone had fun!

Can someone fill me in on soft tops with our jeeps?

The TJ has a Bestop replace-a-top (i think its the cheaper of the 3 options) thats about 6 months old. It fit ok during the winter. I say OK becasue the passenger side front area that connects to the top of the windshield has always had a slight "cracked window" noise and the driver/pass side rear section that tucks into the rails just below the rear windows (the windows next to the rear seat) pops out of the tracks every 50 miles or so.

Now that its warmed up and the sun is getting hotter, it fits poorly. I had my windows open Saturday and i noticed some noise from the rear window area. I look back and the whole soft top is undone where it connects to the tub in a 18" section on both sides. I stopped a few miles down the road, tucked it in properly, went into walmart then came out and drove home. Almost as soon as i hit 50 mph the back section popped out again. I cant keep it in the rail, nothing will keep it snug. It fits very very loose.

Is there a way to adjust the soft top frame? I need to remove about 1.5" of slack i figure.

There's nothing that adjusts the top tension, except the latches at the windshield header panel. I assume you have those locked down (right??). If that top uses the factory frame, look at the two bows. There should be some webbing along the top that connects the bows. It's riveted to the bows and perhaps came undone. Maybe the top isn't fully attached to the rear bow? It just snaps on there.

You shouldn't have this kind of issue with a 6 month old top, so something probably came undone with the frame. My 8 year old OEM top is still nice and tight; I have to push down on the rear bow to gain enough slack to remove the "C-pillar" flap. The 97 has an aftermarket top (forget the brand) that is very tight. It's difficult to put up and down because it's so tight.

Ill look it over, maybe somethings loose. It was barely noticeable in the winter when i got it (because it was cold im guessing). But its gotten pretty bad in the warmer weather.

Ill give it some eye balling tonight. If nothing, ill call best top and see what they say.

Also someone is coming from Everet (sp) MI, to look at/buy the welder tonight.

Checked out the soft top bow, its snug as a bug. Nothing is loose as far as the frame goes. The header clamps are down and snug as well. Ill call best top and see what they think.

That webbing strap connected? I had to re-rivet mine a few years ago.

So much for warm and cloudy. I had plans to work on the jeep today on my one day of break.
