Jk tires and dunes

i have a 2009 jk unlimited x that i am thinking about taking to silver lake dunes i have only gone offroad a couple of times so i still have the street tires that come with the jeep. do you think that these tires will work at the dunes if i air down to abou 10-15 psi and run 4hi.
thanks

Last summer before the lift and new tires, we ran stock sized nokian's at silver lake with no problem. If I remember correct we aired down to about 12lbs. We weren't flying up and down test hill, but they did all that we wanted to do.

Jk

I just came back a few weeks ago with my JK and had to air down to around 9 lbs in my 35's and had no problem. Last year with my stock tires I aired down to 10 lbs and worked great. Some of the steeper hills used 4-lo, but most of the time used 4-hi.

Once you air down you will be just fine. All of the local rental JK's also run street tires without any problems. Not likely you will need to use 4-low.

Just a word of warning.....You are going to have a blast!!!

You will have allot more fun in your own Jeep over a rental buggie. If they are worried about damaging it tell them it's not even an issue unless of course you are launching it off of the dunes. Anything short of that your Jeep will be fine.

Here is a few pictures to give you something to look forward to.

Be careful with the ponds. One of them is said to be 8 feet deep.

The beach is really nice if you just want to hang out or swim.

Don't forget your camera.

I can vouch for one of them being around 8 feet deep. We watched an old military 5 ton drive into one and have water up the doors a few inches.
Definitely something to see, and made me stay to where I could see the bottom.

ORV stickers can be purchased at many places in town when you get there as well as anyone that sells hunting and fishing licenses in Michigan. Not sure about Wal-Mart.

X2 on some of them being deep. I watched a guy on a quad complety go under.

I helped him get his bike back out. from the edge of the pond you could not even see his bike.

I have stock GSAs on my TJ and run them at 8psi and it works great. The lower you can go the better - just a few psi makes a world of difference. I have seen guys do test hill in 2wd and just crawl up it - its all tire pressure.

I was a panty waist my first trip up and ran 15psi and had to hit it pretty hard to get up the big hills. I got stuck once and a cool guy in a YJ helped me out - once I droped to 8-10 it made a HUGE difference.

You'll have a blast up there for sure.

I don't think so as long as you have a license. Not sure about that. Here is a link that might help you.
