Thank you Jason. No offense, but I was really hoping for more than one response after 70+views?

Oakland County is not as enthusiastic about the project as we were hoping - we need to demonstrate that there are
a) more Oakland County ORV users than ORV sticker sales would indicate and
b) enough non-Oakland County ORV users that would travel to play there and help defray the costs of building it

None taken, glad to help. I'm all for any opportunities to wheel. With as much pissing and moaning about the lack of places to go, I'd think people would be all over this.

Received an email for this the other day. Completed the survey and forwarded it on to my ORV friends. Would be great to have another place to wheel.

My (personal, not work related) thoughts exactly.

phittie1100 - any idea where they were thinking of putting it if they went ahead and did it?

The folks at Oakland County are not quite ready to be specific about the location yet - that will change soon, the prospective property will be used for an invite-only limited test event later this summer. If you attended SnoFari in January 2014, you should be on the invite list. If the test event makes everyone happy there will be additional test events open to the public.

I took the survey, just didn't respond.

Not to be a downer, but Oakland county is dense and filled with people who would say things like "property value" and "noise". I'm trying to picture how this would work out.

Wasn't there a proposal for a park in the Lake Orion area a few years ago?

Not even a few years ago - just last fall the Orion Twp and Village of Orion shot down the proposal even before we got approval for sound testing and a demonstration ride. Oakland County P&R staff are supportive of the project, and the DNR is willing to go along with it. The next steps are local township review, a demonstration event including sound testing, and then another trip to the county P&R commissioners. I think this one has a better chance of approval based on the location, but anything can happen.

The demonstration event is planned for late summer and will be invite-only - the invite list will be created from the SnoFari 2014 participant list, but if successful will lead to a run (hopefully in the fall) that will be open to the public. The Oakland County folks should be ready for a press release etc by late this week or early next week, so stay tuned.

About 50 spots will be available for the 4WD community at the first event, plus a handful of of folks from one of the local dealerships. Another group will be bringing in some SxS's for the day as well. I still have not seen any kind of official press release from the county to pass along unfortunately, but the process is still moving forward. The property looks promising, and so far no flies in the ointment, but there are still some approvals needed before it is signed, sealed and delivered.

liltree-
Thanks for posting the link to the flyer/registration form for the

Dixie Gully Run
Nov. 1–2, 2014 • 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
14300 Shields Road, Holly
(North of Groveland Oaks County Park)

Dixie Gully Run is a 35-acre demonstration course testing
the potential operation of an off-road vehicle site by Oakland
County Parks and Recreation in collaboration with the
Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

PRE-REGISTRATION MANDATORY

Lee

P.S. This has nothing to do with my employment at Jeep/Chrysler. I just think this would be a good chance to help convince "them" that an ORV site in NE Oakland County would be a good thing.
