Lake County Michigan

Anyone on here familiar with the Tin Cup Springs, Lincoln Hills, or Little Manistee trails? I am thinking of making the trek in two weeks to do some trail riding with my LJ and the kids... looks like enough for a two day run, but was wondering if anyone has spent time on the trails... also what all do I need to run them... the LJ is my daily driver and plated in Ohio... do I need an ORV sticker of am I good.

Trail report, and experience wanted!

Spent a weekend up there last year. None are terribly challenging. Some sand. Basically nothing you can't do on a stock LJ. Quite a few campgrounds in that area.

Make sure you have a map. They are available on the DNR website. I have the trails loaded in my GPS, but my GPS failed. (Garmin had to send me a replacement.) I still carry paper maps for such an occasion.

Watch out for quads and dirtbikes. There's not much full-width traffic out there, so the bike and ATV guys don't plan for you taking up the whole width of the trail. I almost clobbered a guy that came around a blind corner looking at his buddy behind him rather than looking forward down the trail at me. Stick to the ORV routes. There's little markers that tell you if the trail is cycle-only, atv only, or full-size ORV.

ORV sticker not required if the vehicle is licensed by the secretary of state. I'm not sure how that works if you're from out of state. ORV tag is only $16.25 so it shouldn't break the bank to get one. I always have one on the Jeeps anyways so I don't know for sure.

But...

Bull Gap up near Mio (but not much there to do)
St Helen Motorsport Area (Roscommon County)
Some portions of the ORV Route system on Drummond Island

Make sure to stay on the routes.

That weekend is the blessing of the bikes in Baldwin so be prepared for thousands of motorcycles to be in the area mostly on the road but the camping will be quite full most places
