Grand Rapids CJ 7 Build

My son and I are starting a build on a 81 Cj7. Our 1st project. We bought it in boxes with a rolling chassis. The best part, in our opinion (experts by no means), is that it came with a full fiberglass body. I'll keep updates as we go. So far we've fitted the body and have started minor repairs. So we are on our way.

So this weekend I did a little body work, filled a couple of deep scratches in the hood. Our goal is to have all the body work done this week. My son has settled on having the inside and the underside of the tub Line-X'd Black. The outside will be done in a dark silver or a grey Line-X.

I picked up a new Lincoln welder. It's a 180HD. Filled a few not needed holes in the windshield frame. Busted the youngster who really thought I would let him grind the welds in shorts and sandles. NOT!

Started to disassemble. We sent the Grill and windshield frame out to the sandblaster. They came back better than we hoped.

So we finally got the hole cut for the twin sticks, and got them mocked up on the Dana 300.

Body is disassembled again and aside from some minor body touch-ups it's ready to go to Line-X. We'll have an update on that next week. So now we can get going on a few things on the chassis with no obstructions. We'll update those as well.

Almost forgot. Anyone notice the tires. 35-1250R17 Goodyear Wrangler MTR with Kevlar on Black Ultra HD Mods. Can't wait to put them to work.

Some more goodies came in today. Our new Painless wiring harness topped the list. Should almost be ready to assemble when the body comes back from Line-X (knock on wood)

Thanks XJcaveman,

So last night we wheeled the chassis out of the garage, plugged any important holes, sprayed degreaser on the engine and commenced to power wash the entire chassis. We also took a minute to wash the mud and sand out of the inside on the frame. So this weekend we'll paint the frame and axles, the kid wants to spray the headers. Generally we'll be trying to keep ourselves busy on little things til Monday. I can't wait. The body is getting Line-Xed (black inside and underside, dark silver/grey on the outside). I just hope it turns out the way I hope it will. Yeah it's like a kid waiting on Christmas.

Today is the BIG DAY. I've been at work since 7:00 am. I hardly slept all night. If all goes well the body will have been sprayed with bed liner and color. Just hoping we made the right choice, hoping it will turn out....
Just can't take it!

I'll update again later. Hopefully with pictures!

OK so while the body was out getting coated we've been cleaning up the motor and chassis and freshening it up with a little paint.
