You really should fill out more of your profile, it will help answering your questions.

If you have street tires, you will be challenged pretty good if it's at all wet. Otherwise, you can do quite a bit.

Look at my Jeep, it's stock and I have a blast. You can definitely go overboard, and get in over your head, but you can have a really enjoyable time if you take your time and listen to your spotters.

I will. Sorry. And, yes, I have the totally basic X with Street tires, and the bad wheels. I need to convince my Dad to get some Rubi take offs.

My experience seeing others is that the JK's have pretty good clearance. However, when you do scrape, not having traction with the street tires means you get hung up easier and can't get off without help. So, then you have to go faster over obstacles, which makes it more likely you can/will do real damage.

This is all in optimal conditions.

Add some rain and wet conditions, and this all gets bad - quickly. Even on 'easy' trails, it can get really tough with street tires.

Tires can be a good choice for a "first upgrade" without spending too much money, but improving off road capability.

Yeah. Maybe for Christmas I can get some better tires. But most likely I will need to get new rims too. If I could find a cheap pair of Rubicon take offs, I would be set.
