Jeff's Going Wheeling: Moab 2013

Hey Jeeps Going Wild members, are you ready to wheel, I mean really wheel? If all goes well I'm planning a return to Moab in May of 2013. I'm thinking of arriving in Moab on Monday May 20th and leaving Moab on Saturday May 25th. That means Saturday May 18 and 19th are travel days, as are May 25th and 26th. Now this is just some tentative planning here. Things won't get real serious until January gets here.

I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot, mentioning the trip this far out, but if I am, so be it.

Think Moab.

02/13/13 Edit: The Jeeps Going Wild club is no more, so JGW now stands for Jeff's Going Wheeling.

I'm thinking finding a hotel, after January 1st, is going to be hard. Worse case, we camp. FYI-I'm not much of a camper.

So hotels are getting booked up already?

And what don't you like about camping? There shouldn't be bugs in the desert? Just snakes and scorpions.

Never said I didn't like it, I just never do it....maybe twice in my life.

It would be cheaper camping.

We could do some comfy camping, if you want. Just sucks having to sleep in the heat at night.

Is it possible to camp wherever we want or do we have to stay at specific campsites?

It's not hot at night in May...or at least it wasn't last year.

I saw both kinds of camping, trail side and paid sites.

There are lots of places to camp along the Colorado River....very scenic. I don't know if the people camping trail side were supposed to be, but the were there on Onion Creek and Top of the World.

A hotel for 5 nights, double occupancy, would run around $450 each, or so it seems.

All things to really start talking about come January.

Good idea to start thinking about these things. Plus we'll have to see who will be able to go and any considerations the entire group has.

Should be fun!

I made this a sticky, so it won't get lost over the next few months, and so other club members can find it.

Like I've been saying, if I'm here, I'll be there. I don't think our leave book goes out that far so I'll have to request it in a few months.

Oh and camping is fine by me.
