WOHVA Updates September'2011

WOHVA Update September, 2011

Since our last update, WOHVA has been diligently at work assuring that environmentally responsible OHV recreational opportunities remain available nationwide and are expanded here the Badger State.

Just a few of the things WOHVA has been up to recently include:

WOHVA Volunteers gathered for three Mole Lake Trail Days. If you’re interested in joining us in Mole Lake and becoming a WOHVA trail volunteer, visit our forums for information on getting involved. A complete listing of all WOHVA’s scheduled events for 2011 (including Mole Lake Trail Days) is available under the WOHVA Events tab on our web site.

WOHVA attended the Annual Membership Meeting of the Lake States Resource Alliance held at Trees for Tomorrow in Eagle River, Wisconsin.

WOHVA participated in a meeting of the Crandon Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (CORVPI) Board of Directors. Focus of the meeting centered on their CapstoneProject, development of corporate by-laws, filing paperwork with the Internal Revenue Service and developing a website to be used as a venue to disseminate nformation to motorized recreation advocates and sponsors. CORVPI is actively searching for motorized recreationists to serve in the capacity of Directors for their organization. If you or club/organization would be interested in making a commitment to serve on the CORVPI Board of Directors email
Crandon_ORV_Park@charter.net with details (include description of areas of expertise).

WOHVA mailed out our Mid-Year WOHVA Updates to WOHVA Supporting Groups Groups receiving this mailing included:

Badgerland 4WD Club, Inc.
Damage, Inc. 4X4 Club
Gopher Wheeling Off-Road
Madison Motorcycle Club
Chicago Land Rover Club
Extreme Offroaders
Kettle Moraine Sport Riders
Wisconsin Dual Sport Riders

These Clubs are actively supporting WOHVA’s mission to proactively assure the expansion of motorized trail riding opportunities here in the Badger State via their membership and financial support of WOHVA. Information in the Update included updated information about WOHVA’s activities for the first half of the year, the announcement of the WOHVA/USFS Memo of Understanding and the announcement of the 2011 MVUM for the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Be sure to ask your club to share these updates with all your members!

WOHVA attended the Lake States Resource Alliance (LSRA) Annual membership Meeting at which WOHVA was again elected to the Board of Directors. The LSRA
also held their regular BOD’s Meeting at Trees for Tomorrow, Wisconsin. WOHVA Executive Director, John Schnorr was unanimously elected LSRA President. The
LSRA is a group of access advocates focusing on a multiple-use approach to industry and recreation in National Forests in and around the Lake States Area Michigan, Minnesota & Wisconsin). Staffers from the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest contacted WOHVA several times to discuss immediate corrective actions needing to occur to assure that The Pipeline 4X4 Trail Corridor remained open to motorized recreation. Discussion focused around the exposed high-pressure gas pipeline being traversed by motorized recreationists at the area commonly referred to as Site 26. Access restrictions were immediately put in place. Short-term plans will include temporary closure to the area until such time that environmentally sustainable conditions are re-established in the area.
Additional details will be available at WOHVA’s Fall Trails Update Meeting in October.

WOHVA’s 4th Annual Great Northern Trail Ride was held on the Sokaogon-Chippewa properties in Mole Lake, Wisconsin. This was WOHVA’s fourth year that
WOHVA Trail Guides led OHV enthusiasts through the maze of trails that WOHVA Volunteers have developed on the Tribal Holdings.

If you missed this event and are interested in being added to WOHVA’s mailing list (so you don’t miss out on all the fun next year) email your name, address, city, state & zip code to info@WOHVA.com. Be sure to include “GNTR” in the subject box.

WOHVA signed an Outdoor Recreation Aids Grant Agreement with the State of Wisconsin. The grant gives WOHVA access to $19,750 of federal Recreational
Trails Act grant funding to begin the long-term, multi-phase of The Pipeline 4X4 Trail. This specific grant project includes rehabilitation of Forest Service Road
#904385 which will allow heavy equipment to access areas of The Pipeline between weight restricting bridges, thus allowing future projects to address erosion issues threatening motorized access to the entire area.

WOHVA has a Pipeline Trail Workday scheduled for September 24th. Additional information pertaining to the workday, the grant and The Pipeline is available on the WOHVA web site.

The WOHVA Board of Directors held their regular bi-monthly meeting in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

WOHVA Individual Members can review the agenda, minutes, financial reports and other documents pertaining to all Board Meetings in the WOHVA Updates Forum located in the Forums Section of the WOHVA website. The BlueRibbon Coalition recognized WOHVA in their August 30th BlueRibbon Coalition Partner Bulletin. The Bulletin recognized two of WOHVA’s most recent accomplishments: The WOHVA/USFA Pipeline 4X4 Recreation Trail Memo of Understanding and the WOHVA Recreational Trail Act (RTP) Grant for the rehabilitation of Forest Road #904385 in the eastern Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest in the Laona/Lakewood Ranger District.

For more information about these two project and how you can volunteer to help WOHVA save the pipeline visit our web site at www.WOHVA.com.
