Wohva updates june 2013

WOHVA Update June ‘13
Every month WOHVA provides our members and other motorized trail recreation advocates with this short synopsis of WOHVA’s efforts to proactively assure that environmentally responsible OHV recreational opportunities are expanded here the Badger State.

In conjunction with the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI), WOHVA is working with North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (NCWRPC) on an extensive Feasibility Study to direct establishing a 10,000 acre Badger State Motorized Recreation Area (MRA). Last month a special project team from WORVPI continued to meet with their consultants drafting the Forest County Motorized Recreation Area Feasibility Study. Delivery of this long anticipated document was received last received last month. WOHVA is excited to have been on the forefront, representing Badger State motorized trail riding enthusiasts, on this project. We look forward to continued involvement as the MRA Project continues to unfold.

The Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI) was featured on WXPR 91.7 FM Public Radio in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. John Schnorr, President of WORVPI (and WOHVA, Legislative Director) was interviewed by Ken Krawl of WXPR Radio. Discussion focused on the upcoming development of the Forest County Motorized Recreation Area and the huge, long-lasting, positive economic impact this project will have on the economy of northern Wisconsin.

Among those is attendance at the 2nd Annual Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI) Meeting of the Corporation was an extremely strong contingent of WOHVA Members, Officers, Directors and Representatives from WOHVA Supporting Groups. The meeting was held at the Potawatomi Casino & Conference Center in Wabeno, Wisconsin. Details on this meeting (and WORVPI) can be found on the WORVPI Web Site (www.WORVPI.org).

WOHVA participated in the regularly scheduled Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI) Monthly Directors Meeting in Crandon, Wisconsin. Meeting agenda and other important updates can be found on the WORVPI Web Site.

Staffers from the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest contacted WOHVA to update and discuss corrective actions needed to assure that The Pipeline 4X4 Trail Corridor remained open to motorized recreation. Discussion focused around the control of invasive species present in the Forest as well as bringing closure to WOHVA’s two-year RTP Grant Project. As part of WOHVA’s Memo of Understanding with the CNNF, the two parties meet (a minimum of twice annually) as needed to address issues of concern involving the area in and around The Pipeline (Forest Road #55552).

With members of the Wisconsin State Legislature, WOHVA reviewed what appears to be the final draft of our 4WD Registration Legislation. The Legislation will provide a long overdue funding source for development of motorized recreation trails here in the Badger State. WOHVA is currently recruiting sponsors (and co-sponsors) and anticipates the legislation to be introduced very soon.

WOHVA issued a “Help WOHVA Succeed” Action Alert to gather additional support for our proposed 4WD Sticker Program. If you’re an advocate of motorized trail recreation with contacts at our State Capitol please contact WOHVA to help us succeed in passing this vitally important trail funding source. Read the Action Alert on our Web Site.

The Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI) was featured in an issue of The Forest Republican. John Schnorr, President of WORVPI (and WOHVA, Legislative Director) was interviewed by Lynn Weide (Staff Writer of The Forest Republican). A link to the article is available in the WOHVA Blog.

“Remember, join and advocate (that’s) the two most important things that you can do!” - Del Albright (April ’09, WOHVA’s 5th Annual Wisconsin OHV Enthusiast Workshops)
