WOHVA Update July ‘12.
Since our last update, WOHVA has been working diligently assuring that environmentally responsible OHV recreational opportunities are expanded here the Badger State.
At the request of the Madison Area Sports Commission, WOHVA sent a letter to the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) formally endorsing Madison as the site for the 2013 Annual NOHVCC & INOHVAA Joint Conference. *For more about NOHVCC and their national conference visit their web site at http://www.nohvcc.org

In conjunction with the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI), WOHVA is working with NCWRPC on an extensive Feasibility Study to direct establishing a 10,000 acre Badger State Motorized Recreation Area (MRA). *Weekly, a conference call with the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (NCWRPC) and a WORVPI team is held. *WOHVA is excited to be on the forefront, representing Badger State motorized trail riding enthusiasts, on this and other advocacy projects. *Three such meetings occurred last month. *WOHVA, of course, participated in all these meetings. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Informed access advocates will recall that WOHVA previously contracted with an independent consultant to develop a business plan for establishing a MRA here in the Badger State. *NCWRPC is located in Wausau, Wisconsin and does major research projects for many northern Wisconsin counties and municipalities. *Regular updates on this project will be available on the WOHVA web site with detailed updates expanded upon in the WOHVA Members Only Forums. *Watch our website for more details as they become available.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation Reauthorization Conferees were once again contacted by WOHVA and urged for continued support for the Recreational Trails Program. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *RTP is arguably the most important government program ever created to benefit motorized recreation, and funds the development and maintenance of thousands of miles of motorized and non-motorized trails.
Volunteers from across the Badger State participated in WOHVA’s Annual Spring Pipeline Trail Day. *The hours spent by these volunteers helps assure that The Pipeline remains open to licensed motorized vehicle recreation as well as assists WOHVA in obtaining grants to rehabilitate and maintain this section of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF). *As always, WOHVA provided all volunteers with an outstanding trail lunch (also prepared and served by WOHVA volunteers). *Thanks to all who attended. *For more information on The Pipeline see the CNNF Motorized Vehicle Use Map and look for Forest Road #55552 in the Laona/Lakewood Ranger District.
Accompanied by Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park Directors and representatives of Forest County, WOHVA toured potential locations for a motorized recreational area in Forest County. *The group spent the entire day exploring the areas taking time to carefully note wetlands, domestic dwellings, soil types and topography of each site. The tour is part of the process to determine the most suitable location. *This location will become the ultimate recommendation in both a feasibility study and business plan for Wisconsin’s first all-inclusive OHV riding area.
Three Mole Lake Trail Days were hosted by WOHVA last month. *Trail Days center on trail maintenance and development, but there is always some trail riding involved. WOHVA participated in the regular monthly meeting for the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. WOHVA Volunteers again assisted the Kettle Moraine Sport Riders when the hosted their Annual Father’s Day Hill Climb in West Bend, Wisconsin. WOHVA Volunteers staffed the “Ticket Booth on the Hill” for the Spring Brush Run Off-Road Races at the Crandon International Off-Road Raceway.

The Forest Republican reported on WOHVA’s 8th Annual Wisconsin OHV Enthusiasts Workshop (which were held on April 13th & 14th). *The report included an announcement and picture of the grant presentation which assisted to fund the one-day Forest County OHV Park Development Workshop hosted by WOHVA. *The grant was made available by the Plum Creek Timberlands Foundation which provides philanthropic contributions to organizations to support and improve the general welfare and quality of life in the communities in which Plum Creek Timberlands owns and maintains timber production operations.*For more information on WOHVA Workshops visit our web site. WOHVA’s 9th Annual Wisconsin OHV Enthusiasts Workshops will be held April 12 & 13, 2013 at the Mole Lake Lodge and Conference Center.
The 3rd (and final) phase of WOHVA’s Business Plan regarding the creation and operation of the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. was begun. *WOHVA members will recall that the first two phases documented the unaddressed demand for this type of recreational venue here in the Badger State. *Additionally, the preliminary data collected shows a very high likelihood of this becoming a viable and operationally attractive venture. *The document is being researched and drafted by the Creative Enterprise Center at Ripon College. As was the case with the previous two documents, WOHVA looks forward to presenting this final installment to the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. when completed.

Both of Wisconsin’s U.S. Senators were individually contacted by WOHVA and urged to support Amendment #2212 to S. 3240 (The Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012). * Additional information on this specific legislation can be found in the WOHVA Action Alert Forum.
WOHVA’s 8th Annual Wisconsin OHV Enthusiast Workshops was one of the feature articles in UFWDA’s spring edition of their newsletter. *You’ll find the article of pages 5 & 6 of the latest publication of “The Voice”.*The article reports that, “WOHVA hosted an event that ought to be modeled after by other associations.” *It continues, “WOHVA did an outstanding job putting all the (states) players in a single room” and “We had the opportunity to share lunch with Land Managers & Elected Representatives (What an opportunity).”
Representatives from WOHVA attend and participated in town hall information meeting hosted by the Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (WORVPI). Each town chair (and/or their appointee) from the 21 Forest County Townships and every member of the Forest County Board of Supervisors were invited. *The meeting focused on sharing information and updating on the status of bringing a motorized recreational park to Wisconsin. WOHVA’s impact on expanding tourism in Forest County was featured in the Summer Issue of the Wild Rivers Guide. *This outstanding feature publication is published quarterly and delivered to “People who love the Northwoods” as an insert in the Florence Mining News, Borderland Journal & The Forest Republican.
