Question
I'm a newbie and I'm a fellow Wisconsinite. I just have two questions.
Do you register an LJ wrangler as a truck or a car?
and
How up tight are Wisconsin cops on lift kits?
My plan is to do a 6" lift with 35" tires

I think as long as you have a back seat you can register it as a car and save a few bucks in the process.
I run a 3 1/2 lift and 6 inch Xenon extenders over 33 X12.50 tires and have never had any problems with the police. I know there are some bumper height requirements and how much tire can be hanging out of the fender but I don't know the exact numbers... Usually the local boys won't mess with you its the State Police you have to look out for.

Wisconsin Lift Laws | Vehicle Modification Rules
This is were I'm getting my info from on lift laws. So I'm still debating which lift I want to use. I could get a 6" lift and be 1" over the limit or get a 4.5" and fender flairs and be safe.
The only reason I wanted to register it as a truck is because you can only raise car bumpers 2" from stock bumper height (the correct wording is in the link). I am not a lawyer and I don't know how to interpret that.
Thanks for the info though.

Back when I had my 00 TJ sahara, it was automatically registered as a truck. My Liberty was automatically considered a wagon! haha
I would just say go for the truck if you have the option. It isn't going to save you that much money to register as a car, the bigger difference is year, and it will likely eliminate that legal question if need be. I also don't think you'll have an issue, but if you're worried about the law, go ask your local PD, they will certainly tell you what they look for!

Cant believe I havent said hello...
Im from Viroqua, near Lacrosse WI. No place to offroad - luckily it floods here all the time so that offers some fun. I might head up to the Pipeline before we get lots of snow on the ground...
