OK guys, I just stubled across this thread and will chim in. If you have questions about where to go wheeling around the Clovis area I can help.
First I will tell you that Haystack Mountain near Roswell is for 50" or less but I have been working on getting that changed.
Over near Post Texas is a lease property you can wheel on you just need to get in touch with one of the local Lubbock guys.
You also have The Canadian River OHV area north of Amarillo.
About me:
Past pres of the NM4WD club in ABQ. I retired out of Kirtland and wound up here at Cannon which was my first duty assignment back in 85.
I just picked up a 98 5.9 Limited Black and will be modifying it for expidition stuff as I am tired of breaking stuff on hardcore trails.
If anyone wants to contact me I am in 1401 Wing XP or just pm me.

Good to hear from you! I'm glad to have someone around thats been involved in the area. There are a some pretty cool guys in Clovis that have been showing me around, Tim Chavez and Mike Muraco. Mike is retired AF as well, owns a body shop on Prince street (the one with the huge Willys). Tim has a shop in town and does a lot of Jeep and Chevy stuff.

I saw the place on the way to Roswell, kinda sucked seeing 50" max width sign.

Canadian river is awesome.

I work over at the 3rd SOS, PCS'd here in late September. I have a Stone White 5.9 with 4.5" 33s, two J10 Honchos, Grand Wagoneer, and some other toys. I am building a J10 Truggy for the rough stuff. The niner is my toy jeep for now. I have a barn and 20 acres in Portales that I am slowly turning into a nice little shop.

Cool great to hear someone else has a niner. I built a 98 5.2 Laredo in 09 and then sold it to a guy in Amarillo that made me an offer I could not refuse. Now I have my niner and will start installing the goodies soon, I want to have it complete before the end of July for my trip to CO Flattop Wilderness. I will be exploring some of the trails in that area. I am more familiar with the trails around the Salida area. I used to do almost all the extreme trails here in NM with my Scout II that I had to sell in 03 due to a nasty divorce.

Nice looking ZJ! I love my Niner, I want to build my Grand Wagoneer though so I may part ways with it. I dunno, I have too many projects...kinda like Jeep Attention Deficit Disorder (JADD). We all need to meet up sometime. Maybe start a small club for the surrounding area.

Thank God i found this thread!

I PCSd in from hurby back in april and the shear disapointment from not off- roading is killing me! Bad enough i had to get rid of my LJ when i came out to find i dont even have a place to crawl around in my JKUR. Ill have to meet up with yall at some point.

If you see a silver JKUR rolling around Portales or the 551/73 SOS, do remember to wave.

Just saw this and it looks like I missed the action!
I just got a 2009 Wrangler Unlimited in April. Then I promptly deployed. Be back in October. I read the first page and the 6th page of this thread lol, Im gonna have to go back to see the middle.
Im new so it would be great to meet people who know places and whats going on. When I get back I want to start doing a lot. Does anyone have any idea if there are any good places in the state to camp at with a jeep? I would like to take my wife. Shes not very outdoorsy (we just got out to Cannon last October, she spent her whole life in ATL). Id like to be able to take her someplace we could drive to off a trail or something, and then camp back there. Any ideas?

Look forward to hearing from you guys and hopefully driving with you soon!
P.S im the 524th SOS

Hey man glad to see another person, we moved most of our talks over to facebook, if you have a facebook just look up Curry County 4wheelers and James or Jordan should be able to add you to the group. Welcome to the fun.
