Looked at it longingly and decided I can't trade it for a YJ.

I was aiming the Yj's headlights in the garage an found this odd part , I assume it is an engine block heater. I traced the plug wire back to a round housing that sits under the power steering pump. The lower radiator hose is clamped onto it then another 3" hose section goes between it and the waterpump.

I pulled my xj out of my back yard. Going to drive it to work tomorrow and pancake my front tires and alignment.

That's a convection type (I think that's the term, uses the convection flow of heat to circulate the warm coolant around the engine) engine heater. Very nice to have.

Sweet, I am sure that will come in handy this winter starting that old Carbureted engine

Very much so. One of the biggest benefits is warming the oil which thins it out. This in turn makes the engine easier to turn, meaning your starter doesn't have to work as hard.

Having lived in northern Minnesota I can honestly tell you one of the hardest things on a battery and starter is trying to start a carb'd engine that's well below freezing. I had an 81 Chev truck out there with the 305 and I forgot to plug it in one night. My starter and battery (both less than 2 months old) gave up the ghost trying to start it the next morning.

Mind you, this was at 47 below...

Yep. I installed one of those in my old YJ when I had it. Nothing like having instant heat on cold days, especially with my soft top
