With all the recent talk about bumpers being currently built and with the ones built in the past, lets show them off and share ideas!

Here's what I did with my LJ. I wanted something simple and cheap. I went to the local metal supply place in Spanish fork and had them cut the metal and then they bent the center section up for me so it would have nice rounded edges. My brother in law then welded up the end caps. The bumper is all 3/16" steel and total costs (including a little to my bro for welding) was around $60

How it sits today. A little banged up but it does the job.

dont we all?

Back on topic, I didnt really build a bumper.. I just needed something to hold my spare tire.

I wanted to keep it as low cost as possible but still be able to hold my 35's. I knew I wanted a full bumper but dont have the tools to make my own or the cash to buy the one I wanted.

I liked all of the WJ rear tire carrier designs expet they all left big holes in the bumper.. so I tried to be different. Tried is the key word haha

First off, I welded angle iron to my stock hitch.. then I welded a 2x4 3/16" tube across the angle iron so it would sit directly behind the stock bumper. Next, I welded more 2x4 tube to the ends of it and had these ones sticking out of the bumper.. then I used heims to attach another 2x4 to be the swing arm

you know what.. I will just post pics lol if you have questions, feel free to ask haha. the total cost for parts was like $215. I ended up selling the carrier to help fund my axle swap. ill build a full bumper someday.

Thanks, John! for the price, it was well worth it. im sure it would have hit several rocks in Moab but it was sturdy and would have been just fine. there are a few things that I didnt like about it but it was a good learning experience. it was my first time welding

Sure I don't care. A custom bumper is a custom bumper. We can learn from all the different types.

Pretty soon I will have another build to post in here.. Im building a hidden winch cradle for my WJ. it will be under the stock bumper and replace the crossmember. oh, did I mention it will be bolt in?! that way I can sell them! Hopefully I will have the metal cut this weekend and get it welded up as soon as I can after that. WJ winch bumpers kill approach angle too much!

me like ^^^

Here's my Bronco bumper just for fun, no pictures of the build unfortunately. Originally tried to bend one up with a harbor freight pipe bender, that wasn't working so hot, so it's actually all just cut and welded, with a bolt on skid, I used a piece of c channel mounted between the frame to hold a winch, but sold the winch soon after buying it, and then the bronco after that. It was welded to the frame at the bottom, and the skid was 3/8 steel, and it was mounted through the frame and in the stock locations as well. Really cheap and dirty build, ran me like $70, but it served it's purpose, and didn't look half bad and gave me a much better approach angle

here it is primed up after it got put together, minus the bolt through the frame and end caps welded on

here it is from the side, with my license plate tabs, and fully bedlined and mounted

another angle of it.

yeah, this one should be a lot easier than that one. less peices to put together. the only hard part will be cutting out the crossmember... not that cutting is hard, its just that there is no turning back once you make the cuts

Several months ago. You must mainly browse JF on your phone

I forgot to add the price of my "bumper" to my post. I'm pretty sure I have the most expensive bumper so far
