We are going to Promontory today to drive the old Rail bed from the Transcontinental Rail Road. I hear there are some small ghost towns and stuff like that on the way. I will post later to tell ya what I thought of it.

We did the Rail Road trail, and it was neat to drive an old part of history. It was not that scenic however. No technical spots. However if you think of what you are driving along it makes the trip worth it.

Why so late in the year before farmington is open?

I went up there last Thursday and the gate was closed. You can park and walk up or you can access the back side from the B. I read that they basically have to rebuild the side of the mountain where the mud slides were. So its gonna take months.

Was there more mud slides? I know that's why it was closed last summer

Just the one. It was good sized and the ground was to unstable to clear it.

getting to farmington from the b is not that bad though. just time consuming and it makes for a long trek back when you break something

There are some old abandoned campgrounds on top between Bountiful and Farmington...west facing. I believe they were from the CCC days after the depression. That would make for a fun UJC campout later this year.

I'm fairly new to the area. What is the B you are referring to? The "B" on the mountain in Bountiful?

Thanks

Really? Where at? I've spent days up there just cruisin around and I don't remember seeing them.... New trails are always fun.
