Need to get off the pavement.

Well, it's time to buy a Jeep again!

But the question is.. To buy what??

I've been digging through KSL, and it seems things that are in my budget either have 200k miles or are half built projects.

I could probably go up to $5-6k for the right rig, but this is also going to be a semi-daily driver. At least needs to get me to the FrontRunner station a couple times a week.

I'd like a jeep, but this FJ40 looks pretty clean. But it's not a Jeep and I'd be out of the crew.

Anybody spot any deals around?

That cruiser is pretty cool. I say get it if thats what you like. Seems i see lots of built rigs in your price range. What are things you are looking for? Manual or auto? Under a certain mileage? Want a wrangler but not a YJ(trend around here)?

I like the cruiser mostly because you don't see a ton of them running around (although that might not be a good sign). The main thing is getting from point A to point B with relative reliability. I'd like to break things on the trail, not getting to the trail. haha.

The mileage thing is more of a mental block I think. I seem to remember my dad talking about never buying a vehicle with over 100k miles. So in my mind, I see these higher mileage rigs and thing I'm going to spend all my time replacing alternators, fuel pumps, etc. If that makes sense.

I'd definitely be interested in taking a look. Is it posted for sale anywhere?

That's too bad, definitely would have given it a closer look.

Found a 5.9 ZJ on KSL. The price seems a little high, but could probably talk them down. I'm thinking 4k might be reasonable.

Being from a dealer though you probably will get all the fun fees. Just make sure it's 4000 out the door, not 4000 plus sales tax, plus doc fees, plus etc....

Man you werent kidding. Maybe its because its getting into snow season so everyone wants alot more than their jeep is worth. I found 3 jeeps that if i were looking id be interested in. On all of them i would try to get the price down some.

93 6cylinder 122,000 miles $3,800
http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/80678

94, doesnt say engine size but you want the 6cyl, thing is in imaculate shape, 134,000 miles, $5000(definitely talk them down)

2002, 163,000 miles, 6 cylinder, does need new tires so talk them down on that, $5000

If you are interested in a project...

I have a co-worker with a 98 5.2 JGC that he will likely be selling for ~$800. After he paid a neighbor to do a tune up, water pump, timing chain, all fluids, etc...he found that it had lost a lot of power. I think the engine got warm, the compression on the passenger side is pretty low. I can find out how much he would want for it. My bro is parting a 93 5.2 JGC (engine and tranny for ~$700), I think the trans was rebuild about 30k ago.

This isn't a low miles option, but it was one I was considering for myself...I just don't have the time right now.

That 94 is super clean, but it's only the 2.5l (looking at the VIN). The more I think about it, the more I am leaning toward a Grand Cherokee. Having the ability to seat 3 in the back would be useful at time.

IrocZ, unfortunately I don't have the time or the skill set to take on a project.

No Prob, just thought I would toss it out there. I really want to do it, I just don't have the time either...A running ZJ with a parts vehicle for $1500 would be cool. But then I would just end up lifting it, wheels/tires, other mods...It's a good thing I have a wife to keep me focused on the more pressing projects

Went to look at this Jeep today. It was in pretty sad shape, Bad sounds coming from all over the place when driving. The search continues.

This XJ looks super clean. Would $4,500 be a fair price?

Ended up buying a 2000 XJ with 112k miles. Has a 3" Procomp lift, that that appears to be about it, but is otherwise in decent enough shape. Needs a few minor things, like a new seat up front, hatch locking mechanism, and a couple other odds and ends. Nothing a trip to Pick n Pull won't fix.
