Well the time is coming! I'm heading out there on Wednesday. Looking to run Fins as my first trail. Anyone else going to be out there Wednesday or Thursday? And again, any new suggestions on places to go, places to stay away from I'm open to hear it.

Thanks!

Went there last Week. Wed-Sat. Lot of people. There was a Marathon thing going on, plus the weekend. I ddnt book, so it was hard to get a room with a good deal. first night was just $60 next following was like $150.
I was going to do some wheeling but the day i was gonna do it my rear axle leaked again. Fixed it a day before i went. Sucks, I just drove around the Arches Park. Did some dirt run. I feel really unsatisfied coz of the that leak i couldn't do what i came for. I was with my wife and daughter, the drive around the park was good enough for them.
A week is not enough in MOAB.

ENJOY There...

Just got in from day one and I'm beat (and sunburnt from 81 degrees of pure blinding sun today), so this is going to be short. Fun as hell, I can tell two days won't be enough. I picked up the lifted Rubicon this morning and decided to go right for Fins n Things. I hit the bottom of the trail and there were 15 Land Rovers in front of me on a rally. I talked to the rally leader and seeing as how I've never been on trails like these they let me tag along. Good people, learned how to find the best lines, feathering the brakes/gas, etc. And of course I got to here a lot of Jeep bashing (all in good fun). They were a little slow for my taste so I broke off around 1pm and cut ahead. Rolling solo through the Fins was awesome after getting in practice with the LR team.

Tomorrow Hells Revenge early, hopefully I can finish before noon. And then I need to find another trail kinda close to central Moab to run. Spending the whole day rolling around different combos of the Fins was damn good practice. And I know I'll be back longer next time.

Pics and dashcam vids coming in a day or two.

Sucks about your axle keeping you out of the trails. Moab is awesome, I'm only running on two days and I know that won't be enough.

If you're feeling up to snuff on your newly aquired driving skills, you could think about doing Moab Rim. It's extreme, and has a couple of places that are dicey, but nothing a lifted Rubi can't handle. This trail is all about placement and lines. But it is a short trip and close to town, maybe a couple or three hrs., so it's up to you.
This is what you'll be up against...

Been back home about 24 hours now so its about time I start uploading some images. The trip was awesome, Moab was a lot more than I expected. I did a two day rental solo because it was the only way I'd get out to Moab this year. I was kind of concerned with going offroading the first time solo but people out there open to riding together, plus I had full cell service on every trail I was on.

Day One:

After a two hour drive from Colorado I made it to Moab around 730am. I went to City Market in my sweet rental Kia to get some supplies for the day ahead before getting my Jeep. I highly recommend bringing more water than you think you need. I ran through 4 big bottles pretty quickly on day one, day two I brought more than a gallon and left with almost nothing. It may have been October but the temp hit 80 both days, also between the adrenaline and the direct sun I was running through it quick.

So the time to pick up my rental came and I made my way to Farabees (Farabee's Jeep Rentals | Moab, Utah | Death Valley | Colorado | Arizona); I highly recommend them. They are a cool group, every rental comes with a cooler loaded with ice and water which is key imo. My ride for those two days was a lifted Rubicon. It had a 2.5" lift, front and rear locker, electronic sway bar disco, and 33" BFG M/Ts:

So I drove it back to City Market because I forgot to pick up the most important thing, duct tape. Why? Dash cam. Taped the Flip cam right to the dash and it took some awesome footage. I still need to upload it so I will be adding that soon:

I had never done offroading like Moab but I decided to dive right in and head for Fins N Things. I headed towards Sand Flats rec area where Fins N Things and Hells Revenge are located. You need to pay $5 for a day pass on these courses which is absolutely worth it, btw $10 gets you a week pass which I ended up getting since I went two days in a row. When I rolled up to the beginning of Fins N Things I was met with a line of 15 Land Rovers. Kinda disappointing they weren't Jeeps but they were a good crew in from all over the country. I went to talk to the rally leader and they were cool with me tagging along since I was a first timer like a lot of them. They were really good in helping me figure out how to pick lines and spotting me just as they did for everyone else. I did get to hear a lot of sh*t about Jeeps the entire time though (all in good fun). Here's my view from the back of the convoy:

I don't really know anything about Land Rovers but there was one that was from at least the 60's out there still rolling around, although it sprung an oil leak and everyone pitched in to clean it up and fix. The red LR in this pic is the one from the 60's:

And there were brand new 2010 LR's out there that people were still making payments on, which is either ballsy or stupid, I couldn't decide. Anyway, it is amazing out there on the trails:

Nothing around for miles.

They were a fun crew to ride with, but we started around 830AM and when we took lunch it was 1PM. At this time we had only hit the halfway point of a trail that was supposed to take 4 hours. I broke off with them a little while later and ended up finishing Fins n Things alone. That was really fun being out there solo with no one around for miles.

I ended up finishing the trail (and a few different runs up Kennys Climb) around 4PM and quickly sped off to the next closest trail which happened to be Porcupine Rim trail. That was a sweet trail and definitely easier than Fins N Things imo. There were a couple of ledges but for the most part a smooth ride enjoying the scenery.

By this point I was out of water awhile ago and the sun was beginning to go down so I flipped it back to town for the night. Without finishing the trail. I had a great time on the trails and met up with some people at the Moab Brewery for some drinks.

Day Two writeup, pics and vids to come...

Finally got some videos up, more to come in the next few days.

These are from the beginning of Fins 'n Things with the Land Rover crew. It was also my first time on slickrock.

Attempting to climb a hill in 2WD:

More to come!

Moab Rim was off limits with the rental unfortunately. There was a $300 fine for being spotted on the following trails:

Poison Spider, Moab Rim, Pritchett Canyon, Behind the Rocks, Gold Bar Rim, and Kane Creek Canyon. Also Mineral Bottom Road is closed on the White Rim trail due to the road being completely washed away.

I guess they've had a lot of damage to their Jeeps on those trails. Either way Hells Revenge was challenge enough first time out, but I was thinking about doing Metal Masher.

That's not too surprising... but I also assumed that lifted Rubi would have at least 33's.

I'm betting now you've got the bug, though.

anywho, I gotta start planning for next year!

You're right it was 33's. Definitely got the bug, and I will be going back.
