You would be best off starting on Fins-N-Things. This is the perfect trail for the Moab newbie. Not very difficult and gives you a good feel for what it's like to drive on slick rock. Plus the views are outstanding. After that I would recommend Hells Revenge. Pretty much like Fins-N-Things but takes it up a couple notches. And there's bypasses for all of the difficult obstacles. Both of these are located in Sand Flats State Park. You will not be upset to do these. Heck, I've done them both every year for the last 3 years. They're just that much fun. Of course we do all of the hard stuff too, but they're fun no matter what.

And Behind the Rocks is NOT an easy trail. Especially when you do it BACKWARDS!!!!! My avatar is from Behind the Rocks (White Nuckle Hill and there's NO bypass for it). If you do the trail forwards, you would have to come down this one. Most people take a strap on their back bumper to go down it.

Thanks for the advice on trails. How long do you think Fins-n-Things and Hells Revenge would take start to finish? I'm looking to start easy and work myself up, but I also don't want to take a non challenging 3 hour drive. Something to get the adrenaline going a little isn't so bad. Also I guess my impression of Behind the Rocks was way off, haha. I'll be steering clear of that one for now.

will this work for ya?

I'll let roknut answer that, since I've only been on part of it, but I've seen pics and read reviews, so maybe half day? Roknut should know.

Fins-N-Things can be made as long as you want. There are multiple spots that you can exit from. If you did the whole thing, I would guess about 3 hours. Hells Revenge would be about the same. Never really timed either one so I could be way off but that's about what they felt like anyways. If you started early enough you could do both in one day.

Seven Mile Rim is another fun trail with some small ledges to climb. I did this one with my GF one year by ourselves. I only had one locker and still had stock gears at the time. This one will take you about 6 to 7 hours to complete. Just make sure you let someone know where you're going and when you expect to return just in case.

You could always spend your second day checking out Arches NP. There are some really good short hikes in there that I would HIGHLY recommend. The Firey Furnace and Devils Playground (I think thats what its called). Just another option for you.

not my pic. but IIRC it was hells revenge or somewhere around there. I've never been, so can't say for sure. It was a group of guys from the JU forum from the year before last. I just copied the pic to the PC.
And yes, it does look darn steep... not short wheel base friendly at all. lol.

That picture is Hell's gate and it's any wheelbase friendly. There isn't anything hard about it, it's just steep.

I've been up Hell's Gate and it's not that steep that's why I didn't recognize it.

Haha, just noticed the guide on Moab trails I bought has both those listed as Difficult trails. In your opinion are they noob friendly, or are we talking 90 degree climbs? Also is the Hells Gate portion of Hells Revenge avoidable? Idk what I want to chance with a rental.

I have the Charles Wells book and he HIGHLY overrates most trails. I have no idea how he figures Fins-N-Things to be difficult. I would rate it on the lower end of moderate at best. As for Hells Revenge, every hard obstacle has a bypass. Hells Gate is on a side trail that you can park and walk over to it just to see it. You don't have to drive it. Escalator, Tip Over Challenge, the Hot tubs all have bypasses. You'll be perfectly okay on these trails with the rental and you won't be disappointed.

Have you decided what trails are you going to take?

For every one else, will a Jeep GC with 3" lift and 32" tires make it on those said moderate trails. I havent been to moab too, nor done any offroading. Im wondering if i need to rent too. I havent lifted My GC yet. i already got the tire though. And is this place good to stay Tent & RV Camp Sites | Archview Resort Moab Utah ?
I plan to stay in a cabin with great scenic view of the mountain.

* I dont mean to highjack your tread. I just dont want to start a new one.thanks

No worries about a hijack, we both are looking for the same info. I haven't decided on the trails yet. I'm going to sit down this weekend and put together a plan.

I did just make a reservation for a two day Rubicon rental, I firgure one day won't be enough. 2 dr, 2.5" lift, front and rear lockers, electronic discos, soft top; I can't wait. Plus I haven't had a true vacation this year so it is worth going into debt for, haha.

I'm still open to more suggestions from people for trails as well as hotels around Moab, so keep 'em coming. Also I plan on taking a ton of pictures while out there and will be filling this thread with them, so that may give other people some ideas for when they go.
