Hey fellas.

I'm from Southeast Missouri, but my Dad is a transplant here from the Logan/Malad/Preston area. I'm planning/hoping to move out that direction sometime after the first of the year, and I've got a lifted WK Grand Cherokee.

I'm trying to make sure I don't have any problems with inspection when it comes around to that, and don't have problems with troopers or the like.

I'm pretty confident, but I was wondering, how much leeway do you get with the tires sticking out the fenders? Its a bit unfair that we WK'ers don't get fender flares.

Thats more or less how she is now, though I downgraded to Toyo AT2s 265/70/17s from my 285/70/17 Trail Grapplers, which are a full inch narrower.

Thanks for the help.

a shot from the rear would be more helpful so we can see how much they stick out but honestly im my experience its pretty lienient around here. Im in utah county though, not SLC which i hear is a lot more strict. To me the Logan/Malad/Preston area seems like they would be lienient as well.

Yeah, I'm not really sure where I'm going there just yet. I was paranoid at first about the whole sitaution, so I took those wheels off, and put 3/4" spacers on with my AT2s... and now I'm thinking I may be able to use my Vipers again. My sidewalls at the moment are nearly flush with the fenders as is, so if I ran with the Vipers, the side wall would stick out 1 1/4" inch give or take, but that'd mean only about 3/4" to 1/2" of the tread would be outside the fenders.

That being said, I can't really just snap a picture of how it would look at this moment, but they wouldn't stick out a ridiculous amount.

By spacers, I meant adapters. Hub-centric, 10 studs for each adapter. Five that bolt to the hub, five that bolt the wheel to the adapter.

The law is technically it needs to be 100% covered. But you really only have to worry about that when you get safety done. From what you described i dont think you will be bothered. Lots of us have them sticking out much more than that.

Ya you shouldn't have a problem. Mine stick out about one inch and I passes safety with them, And have been pulled over for mud flaps, and he didn't say anything about them sticking past the fender.

BTW, nice wheels! Got the same wheels on my JK in the 15 inchers

Depends, but like Brian said, I would expect Logan to be more lenient than the Wasatch Front. Right now I'm running without flares on my TJ and the local cops just shake their head and laugh at me

Thanks for the input guys. I'll take even more opinions if they're out there! I generally drive like an old man anyway, so I don't attract too much attention to myself... but if they're super strict about it everywhere, I'll just chalk it up to a pipe dream, but I do really like my wheels. The stance is killing me now, because I loved the more "out to the corners" look it had with the others on it.

Btw, nice wheels j33p4life!! haha.

if I think I can keep them, I'm in talks with a metal fabricator/welder friend of mine to hook me up with some steel bumpers!

FWIW, once upon a time I was active on Cummins Forum, and theres 61 pages of lifted Utah Rams, many of which with tires sticking out way further than mine... probably inspection day swappers...

Yep, I think that's about your worst-case scenario... swap for inspection. I've personally never had to do it and I'd guess my tires stick out ~2" past the flares. Don't give the fuzz a reason to WANT to stop you and I can't imagine it ever being an issue.

Don't take it to an inspection only shop because they will reject you for any amount of sticking out. Did that once cuz I was in a hurry to get it done. Big mistake. Now stick to the tire store I buy the tires from and never have any problems.

A few more photos with the old Trail Grapplers on it. The tires dropped from 11.81 inches wide to 10.7 inches wide, so they'll be an 1/2" more inset. Probably going to take one ot the tire shop and see how it sits with the new tires on the Vipers.

The pics aren't front or back, so it is hard to tell. But from that angle, I don't imagine you will have problems with inspection.

best to take one straight down the side of your jeep. my tires stick out about 1/2" past my flares and im in salt lake and have not been pulled over for it. my buddy doesnt even have his rear fenders on anymore with 12" tires and hasnt been bothered in the 2 weeks hes been driving with it like that. i see way worse around here. in park city the cops look for a reason to pull you over since they have nothing to do anyway. im sure if you took it to a small local shop you will be fine with inspection. especially if you get in good with them.
