Just so long as you didn't blow him a kiss, then no harm, no foul.

This mine had about 8 adits that we found. Over every ridge was another way in. Here I am geared up and ready to slip into the butthole of the mountain.

Here is one of the many hazards of mines. Can you spot it? I'll give the answer in the next post.

Answer from above picture. The entire floor of that shaft is wood. You can barely see it in the lower right corner. The area is unsafe to cross. The drop below was well over 50 ft.
Picture below: We found a vertical shaft that I just had to get into. After I tied off my ropes and began to rappel, I hear my wife below me as she took this picture. "Hey, I found a ladder.".

I should have placed something in the picture for context. You really can't see how big this place is from the picture.

This must have been an important room. There was a deep drop off before the door. All of the areas in mines we've seen with doors had remnants of explosives boxes. I don't know what this room held. I couldn't bring myself to cross that plank.

Part of the aerial tramway at the top of the mountain. You can see the counterweight hanging to the right of the cable. It kept the line from slacking and bouncing when loaded.

Are there deer in these mountains? I've seen plenty of wildlife out here, but never a deer. This one looks like it fell down a shaft. It was well too deep to get to it. I really wanted those horns.

You don't need climbing equipment, you need to go to Home Depot and get some trustworthy planks.

Last picture for today. Here is the view of the valley as the sun was setting. Nothing profound to say about it. Purty.

Good guess. There's never enough light. It was light that revealed the hazard to us. My wife shined her light ahead and we saw it penetrate the floor below.

That was the last deer in those mountains. I was wondering what happened to it. Mystery solved!
