I used to have a ZJ. Now I have a WJ... Even fewer of those around...

ZJ destroyed when I got nailed by a drunk driver in the airport tunnel.

Hello everyone I just recently bought a 98 zj limited and doing some work to it currently have 2.25 bb and working on plans for a rack and rock sliders and fixing some of the sloppy crap the previous owner did but I am down to hit some trails cause this has to off road better than my diesel long bed

Wondering if anyone has tackled Dana 30 & 44 bearings plus a transfer case swap in the zj

I've done wheel bearings in the front since its just a hub assembly. The transfer case swap is easy as hell!!

Just remove your old t-case and put the new one in. I put in a 231to replace my tired 249.

What questions do you have specifically?

How hard are the bearings to do and any particular brand and the t case swap since I am going from 98 to 98 it's a direct swap? Cause they told me it was from a 5.2 at lkq

there is a long thread on the swap in the zj section for the TC swap. Tons of info and will give a heads up on what to expect. I think it is even a sticky. I believe you are swapping to a 242. I have a zj bezel if you want it.

With the tcase you have to make sure that the input shaft is matching give or take. And what kind of tcase are you switching out for the one at lkq???

Yeah read all the swap stuff few have done a direct swap so I feel pretty confident. The tcase I am swapping with lkq is the my 249 for the 242 and I would gladly take the spare bezel from you when you have time.

I think most people grab 242's from xj and the shafts usually don't match.

I grabbed a 231 from an xj and surprisingly the first one I got matched perfectly.

Most people grab 242 have to do planetary swap but few have pulled a later case and have done a simple swap of just change case and drive shaft. Most post all have split the case and tail shaft swaps which I want to avoid that's why I opted for a later tcase from same year.
