I guess when you write stuff like that, it is funny. When I write stuff like that, I get restraining orders from Katy Perry's lawyer.

Hey Interactive - sorry I am late to the game here with the welcome but nice to have you aboard. If you ever want to do an AM run on Mondays or a later afternoon-early evening run on Saturdays let me know and I would be glad to join to help with spotting, recovery, etc. I've got a rig that gets me over the speedbumps at the mall and down an occasional trail or two & I love getting out when I can.

This would be the wife's solution as well but as the one paying the loan payments I have vetoed this plan.

Thanks for the welcome. I just got the tranny back in the wife's car this weekend and still have to button up a few things. So hopefully the Jeep will become the third car it was supposed to be. So in a few weeks or maybe sooner I'll be ready to go.

It is easier to keep trannys in the car if you chain them up. I would also suggest dark tinted windows as it keeps people from seeing the chained up trannys and threats of bodily harm to keep trannys quiet.

So bad news tranny is in the car, but death rattle still present. And I'm not pulling that F'in trans again.
So anyone familiar with the Toyota 2zz motor and timing chain slap?

I get a horrible rattle under throttle personally sounds like it's coming from the top of the motor. Almost no sound at idle but gets louder and faster with RPM's. I pulled the trans and looked at the clutch since it was just replaced do to a crappy pressure plate, I thought maybe I installed the clutch backwards, but I didn't so that was a waste of time. I'm thinking since the car was 196,xxx miles maybe the timing chain tensioner is not keeping things tight. I've already looked over the valve train, and everything looks okay.

Does it have a distributor or no? If it has a distributor, with someone watching the rotor, rotate the crank until the rotor moves. Then rotate the crank the other direction. If the crank moves more than a degree or two before the rotor moves, your timing belt/chain is slack and could very well cause the shudder as well as the noise you hear.
