blazepsi, do you directions or coordinates to that cave?

Most of the caves and mines around here are covered with grafitti. I did see some grafitti at Potosi mine area that made me chuckle:

"Wolverines!"

To the younger among us, it was a reference to the movie Red Dawn released in 1984.

Thanks, blazepsi. It's on my to do list now. Do you know of any others that aren't too far to hike from the trail?

Out there in Nelson, you can't walk 100 feet without falling in a mine. They are all over the place! Some are still being worked with varying degrees of vigor. Having said that, some of the mines out there look historic, and are in fact historic, but are still being worked and are private property. So ... you might want to be careful before getting too comfy with somebody else's gold mine.

There are some great histories of Nelson on the internet:

Are the ones that are private and in use clearly marked? On Google Earth I saw quite a few trucks around mines. I would never intentionally stray onto someone elses property.

I see that area gets close to the river too. I was thinking of heading over there after visiting the mines and enjoying this cooler weather, but we may save that area for another day. There are still plenty of areas we have not seen around Yellow Pine that we haven't seen. We'll probably end up there again on Tuesday.

I saw some warning signs(billboard) saying about being private and needing permit to proceed.
thanks for the warning. Im even hesitant to go in the cave. We ddnt have a light. Dont wana step on some rattle snakes.

On the cliffs, i usually go to the other side, its got a wider cove. I only see 1 or 2 vehicles on that side. The trail states 4x4 vehicles recommended but i see one sentra and accord made it there with just moms and their kids. Much quieter and relaxing on that side.
to get there dont take the fork on the left that leads up. Just go straight all the way till you hit an intersection,go to your left. drive about a mile and you'll see another trail to your left. take that road all the way and you reach the beach to the other side.

Ran potato ridge last night :-)

Not sure how bad the rain actually got to it. None of the 5 jeeps had any problems, no one broke, no hi-lifts and no winches! Some of the optional washes may have gotten hit harder than the main trail. Definitely wouldn't run it if you aren't willing to take some damage. I'm lifted 4" on 33" locked front and rear and had to bang/scrap through some spots which doesn't bother me, so maybe I'm not the best judge of how bad it is haha

From the top made it down the backside to red rock in about 25 minutes. Def a rush at night. But awesome with the full moon.

Anyone looking to ride this weekend?

In hindsight, neither was the group I was reporting. I heard it was washed out on a Nissan Titan forum.

Good to hear it's still Jeep friendly.

I only found a few videos on YouTube about the Jubilee Mines. Most were posted by AngelOfThyNight. I had a chance to meet that goth, mystic, vampire, wanna-be Ghostbuster over at Cottonwood.

He's a guy that visits historic places, smokes weed there while he tries to find ghosts. Get high enough and you'll see anything out in the mountains. Hell, I once thought I saw a gang of horses carrying guns out there. He runs a paranormal research site, so he'll see what he wants.

The day I met him was out at Cottonwood Pass almost a year ago. He was driving his car while his girlfriend walked in front, kicking the bigger rocks out of the way. My wife looks at them and says, "That has to be the slowest chase ever."
