Yes I have...in my 99 Sahara. It was early evening on a nice late summer day with temps in the mid 90s. I put my key in the ignition and just as I started to turn the key I heard a large bang and saw smoke coming out from under the hood. I popped the hood and pieces of battery and battery acid all over the engine compartment.

If someone posts on Facebook something sad and you "like" it. Is that support or being a jerk?

Where is a good place to purchase a hand gun? We want to spend around 250-350. Maybe 400 for a decent 1911 used.

Not sure what kind of new gun you could get in that price range. You should be able to get a really nice used one in that range. Gun shows or pawn shops often have good deals for used. Before you go, make sure you have something in mind so you'll know a fair price.

Also get on YouTube and learn to break down the gun you want if you're buying used. Breaking down most semi-autos can be done without tools. Breaking down a gun in front of the seller is also good for bargaining. Most shops are negotiable. Show them you know the inside of a gun and they'll be less likely to treat you like a nobody.

I usually focus on the barrel and surrounding areas. Things to look for:
Bulging
Rust
Cracks
Pitting
Straightness
Look down the barrel for uneven rifling.

Better yet, $350 isn't that far off from $450. $450 isn't far off from $500. Lots of nice new handguns in that price range.

only 1911 you're going to get at that price will be a Rock Island Armory. MAYBE a used Springfield GI base model. Like, base base. My first 1911 (used springfield GI) was like $450 plus tax and background. And that was a fairly lucky find.

Never looked. Seriously? Pawn shops here don't sell guns? I know the last three states I lived in sold guns.
