Haha yeah I got that from the hikers. When I came back to town and mentioned to someone that I went offroading in red rock, they practically had a heart attack! Apparently not many people know about rocky gap

I've gotten it both ways lol. I usually get some dude with his girl that walks up when I pull over to air down/up and tell the "I used to have a Jeep story"

One time I even had some "angry" hikers I guess try to walk out in front of me and block the road. I creeped along, but finally had enough so I side-hilled a steep wall and went around them. They mumbled something smart and right at the same time a huge cloud of dust and rocks flew from behind my Jeep. I still wonder what caused that to happen

I should say I have talked to some nice people too...most just usually ask where I'm going or where I came from.

I always wave and say good morning. I always find when people are mad at something you are doing, if you act nice and say hello, it just pisses them off even more.

I've only gotten that look from tourists. I think most locals know the road is also for vehicles. Isn't there a high clearance/ not a maintained road sign just off the parking area.

There are some nice camping spots along that trail. There's one spot that would be ideal. I just need to pull a few boulders out of the way.

I get it a lot from the people out there. They all have that "I'm better than you" attitude and talk ish under their breath at you so you can't hear them because they're chicken to say it loud enough to get run the uck over or beaten with their own hemp walking stick!

The difference between stupidity and ignorance. Ignorance is doing something wrong and not knowing better. Stupidity is knowing better, but doing it anyway. Don't be stupid!

When I did get that look, it was always after leaving pavement up to La Madre. Most hikers turn back there. Most days I only saw other vehicles past that point.

I only got a look a few times. I may have been going a little fast which is so unlike me. I'm usually an offroad safety commercial.

If we are doing pot luck, we need to get straight who's bringing food, drinks, etc. if we are all just bringing what we need, that's fine too, and we can share the grill(s). What's the consensus? We need to get organized soon so we can hit the stores for whatever is needed.
I think I'll just pay the $10 to get in the park and not risk a heavy fine. So far, I have my charcoal grill, a medium ice cooler, an easy up canopy, probably sodas for everyone, and chairs for me and the wiffle. If anyone has a receiver mount cargo rack that I could borrow for the trip and give back, let me know and I can bring some more stuff.
I wish I could go, but I will be just outside of Ft. Payne AL for the next week or so visiting the in-laws. Hope ya'll are planning more get togethers in the near future; it would be nice to put a rig/face to a name..

What mines? The ones near the end of Tropicana? I think those were the old plaster and gypsum mines. That whole area is heavily vandalized and garbage is everywhere.

Tomorrow is another exploring day for us. Hopefully, we'll be exploring south of Devils Canyon. There are mines not listed on maps. Davidson, when I get home I'm going to send you some coordinates. Maybe you can help identify a few. I think you have more map resources than me.

I actually have the free one - its the one "perk" I have actually taken advantage of because of my terminal illness. I don't sit back on government disability, abuse FMLA, get handicapped stickers or discounts or Medicaid, do that make a wish thing, or any of that other stuff. I have to say, I am really glad I got it, I've used it at Red Rock a million times, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Yellowstone, Zion, etc. and even though it doesn't save a LOT of $$$, every little bit counts sometimes when it comes to the medical expenses plus feeding the Dirtbike/Jeep habit.

I am totally with Khris on the offroad/trails frustrations though, it's not fair that since I can't always walk as far as someone else I am no longer allowed to see something beautiful because someone doesn't like me using other means to get there.
